UC to CC to CSU

Hopefully I’m posting this in the correct spot. So I’m a second year Computer science major at ucsc and I’m looking to make a change. My first year here I did fairly well and kept a 3.3 GPA. My second year here, when I started taking some harder classes has been pretty much a disaster. I’m very unhappy here at this school and it’s reflecting on my school work. I have to work 25 hours a week to be here and it’s been downhill with my academics since the year started. I’m about to start spring quarter and I failed 2 classes fall and I’m pretty sure I’m gonna fail 2 more this winter quarter that’s about to end. I have no problem with transferring to better myself and education. I’m on academic probation right now and after this quarter I need to get straight As if I want to stay. Which I don’t. I want to transfer to a CC and live at home where I can afford not to work and just live with my parents. My question is, what happens to all the coursework and credits that I’ve finished so far. I’ve done most of my undergraduate requirements, but at a mediocre level. Mostly B’s and C’s. The content hasn’t been too difficult for me, but I am a terrible student. Partying and chicks before studying and homework. Another reason I want to move home, more supervision. I’m still very motivated to finish even it takes another year to graduate. I have about 47 credits done and I’m wondering if they’re all going to transfer down to a CC. I want to transfer to a semester CSU like CSULA or CPP where I have more time to really absorb the content. Since I’m on academic probation right now I can’t directly transfer to a csu so I’m forced to go the CC route. I still have a lot of GEs I need to get done so I’ll probably start taking those out first. When I apply to csu will my ucsc GPA be brought over too? Or will I look more like a CC transfer? Any advice on what I should do? I need about 3 more lower division courses for my major.

There will be ‘parties and chicks’ anywhere you might transfer to. Maybe CS isn’t for you - have you looked into a major change?

I should add, the people I know who have been successful earning CS degrees think coding/creating is way more fun than the opposite sex, beer or pot. If that doesn’t describe you - there’s no harm in that. There are parallel majors like Tech and Info MGT that will keep you in the field and take advantage of your coding background, but apply it one level up.
