uc to cc to uc transfer

hello im currently a freshman at UCSB and to sum it up im miserable here. it is currently 2 days before i leave back to LA for winter break and i have been hung up on the idea of withdrawing from ucsb and attending a local community college. dropping out before winter quarter starts would be perfecting timing but i have some concerns about how transferring will work after completing my ge’s at at cc.

i struggled with depression, homesickness, and other personal problems during my quarter here and it has affected the grades of my 2 of my classes, Chem 1A and chem lab with the possible failure of both but wont know yet till next week. this concerns me because i heard that UC’s will calculate your UC gpa when transferring and you must be in good academic standing with your previous UC.

will these two classes effect my chances of transferring to another UC and can i make them up at CC?

If you are pretty sure you want to leave UCSB, then see if it is possible withdraw, this might be the cleanest solution (although you won’t get credit for the classes you are passing)

If you don’t leave UCSB in good standing then they may not let you attend a different UC; it will be up to UCSB. You might want to make an appt now (since you are on-campus) with the admission office to find out what the rules will be. See https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/admission-requirements/transfer-requirements/preparing-to-transfer/other-types-of-transfers.html in the section “Former and current UC students”

As for repeating the classes at a CC
