UC to CSU transfer

Hey everyone. Not sure if this is the right board but I think it is.

I'm a recent CC to UCI transfer. Things haven't been panning out well and I'm miserable here. Going to UCI was not my first or even second choice, neither was any of the UCs I got into. What happened was that all CSUs denied me and I found out too late that it had to do with CSUs preferring the general ed classes to be completed more so than major requirements. Whether this is true or not, I don't know. I picked UCI for the wrong reasons (ranking, UC name, somewhat known for CS, most fin aid) and that was a costly (literally and figuratively) mistake. So now that I've had enough of it I'm trying to fix all of this.

I want to go to a CSU for several reasons. I know they're look down upon here (for whatever reason) but I know that if I went to a school with the major, setting, atmosphere, and location I liked then I'll make the best out of it. I can't say that I've visited any UC to want to come back to any of em. I have my reasons why and I'm not going into that. My top CSU choice was SJSU and now SDSU after I visited the campus. As an engineering major I know I should be applying to the Cal Polys but I'm incredibly iffy on getting in.

So how do I go about this to make it happen? What are the first steps? I know that back home I can easily take classes I need (both general ed and major) but I wouldn't really know which ones to pick for SDSU, SJSU, the Cal Polys and whatever others you guys recommend. My counselor there wasn't that great. I used Assist to get me by. Since it's application season right now, I should apply but I'm debating whether I should do that now or do that next year. I have pressure to get into any of them because by the time I apply next year I'll be 23 (yikes) and I'm feeling way too old for this. I haven't taken any upper divs here so there's minimal damage and for GPA sake, I'd rather not transfer as a UC student but CC student.

I guess my situation is too hard to fix then.

Maybe try talking to a sjsu or sdsu admissions officer

I know but I’m looking for something more solid than that.
