hi all.
i’m a first year at UC Merced. GPA: 3.44. Major GPA 3.7. I’m scared my GPA will fall to a 3.1 after this semester ,which will complete my first year at UCM. I want to transfer to UCSB in fall of 2016, but I don’t know what to do. Enroll at a JC, or apply from UCM. I was told it was easier to get into another UC when you’re already at a UC, but i don’t know. This potential 3.1 that i’ll get excludes summer classes, so by the time i apply in fall, it should be a 3.2-3.3 hopefully.
Withdraw from UCM and go to a JC and TAG (assuming I get a 3.2-3.3 by the end of summer).
SOS. Please give me some advice from those who’ve been in this position.
Major i’ll apply to is going to be something unimpacted in the humanities. PLEASE HELP. thank you!

Its actually easier to go from CC to UC, so I think the CC plan is the best. You need 30 CC units to be eligible for TAG.

Well, I actually ended up with a 3.29
30 Units = Done
Finished 5/7 course pattern
@luckie1367 I’ve spoken to several UCs, and they all tell me going from UC to UC is, for the lack of a better term, easier
UC to UC is not bad - lots of students do it. Not sure where you plan to apply but, target a stronger GPA than the TAG threshold. A 3.5 will probably get you into Davis.
As long as money isn’t an issue, I’d stay put at Merced for now and transfer (if accepted someplace significantly better) at the end of next year.
I know a student who is transferring into a competitive program @ UCSD from UCM this year. (near 4.0 though).
If you don’t make it into your target school, you graduate from UCM on-time - which is a pretty good plan B.
Good luck
I would stay at UCM and go for a UC-UC. It’s a notch below the CCC in terms of priority and in terms of unit count, reciprocity, I agree with your counselors – way easier. Work on the GPA!
I started off as a chem major (horrible idea as my GPA shows). But this upcoming fall, I plan on taking relatively less demanding courses. So, i really have NO excuse but to do well. @lindyk8
@NCalRent , yeah, I am DEFINITELY going to raise my GPA to a 3.5 this fall. My goal is UCSB, i really don’t care for any of the other UCs,just Santa Barbara <3 !! Thanks!
I AM DOING EVERYTHING I CAN TO GET IN
ended the semester w a 3.8
Straights As and one B+, which brought my GPA up from a 3.29 to a 3.48
hopefully all goes well!
And I got in :)!
FutureGaucho <3
AND I GOT INTO UCLA AND UC IRVINE AND UC RIVERSIDE
I DID IT :)!!
How was the process ? I thought you had to wait till your JR year to transfer
