UC to UC Intercampus Transfer Thread

I'd like to start this thread for people transferring between UC campuses. From reading other threads, I know there's at least a few of you...

To start things off, here's a question for anyone attempting an intercampus transfer to Berkeley....

If you're satisfying UC Reciprocity, do you still need to worry about the articulation list presented in the Reading and Composition link of the application update?

Also, on the UCOP application update form, did you enter 2 English composition courses and 1 quantitative reasoning, or did you leave it blank?

Hey davisengineer, are you from UCD?

I'm applying as a transfer from UCD to UCB as a neurobio major but I don't think my chances are that great. I called admissions and you have to take the classes mentioned in the reading and composition unfortunately.

I just entered the quantitative reasoning question but left the other blank.

I called them too a while ago and clarified the situation...

You only have to take the classes mentioned in reading and composition if you're not planning on doing UC Reciprocity. If you do UC Reciprocity, you can ignore that section of the update.

Yes, I'm from UCD

Are you sure? Why would they have this section on their site then:

UC DAVIS
One of the following— Comp Lit 1, 2, 3, 4; English 1, 3; University Writing Program (formerly English) 18, 19; or Native American Studies 5, plus
One of the following— University Writing Program (formerly English) 101, 102A, 102B, 102C, 102D, 102E, 102F, 102G, 104A, 104B, 104C, 104D, 104E, or 104F equals UCB R1A + R1B

Hey, I'm a a freshman at UCSB and I want to apply to UCB next year. What I wanted to know was will UC campuses use my sophomore grades for their decision. thanks.

UC Campuses will use the fall quarter grades of your sophomore year in their decision.

DoctorWho:

I saw that too. That's what you need to take at UCD for Reading and Composition requirement if you do not complete UC Reciprocity.

i dont know if this is true for Berkeley but i applied to UCLA and was told by an admissions counselor that requirements concerning lit comp and a transferable course in math/stats was not a requirement if you are comming from another UC campus. basically all you need is a letter of reciprocity because all their other requirements are intended/implied for CC transfers. i dont know if that helps. just thought id mention it. good luck, seems like almost all inter UC transfer want to get into Berkeley (and for obvious reason)

Yeah. I heard this from the Berkeley counselor too, but I filled in those 3 fields just in case. :)

Can't hurt right?

so when do we ask for a letter of reciprocity?

let's say i finish my school's GE's after spring quarter. do i have to wait until then to ask, or will my school write it in anticipatioin of me completing it? i guess this is something to ask my school personally, but i'm curious to know how are you guys going about it.

If you get accepted, the destination UC will supply you with the address the letter needs to be sent to. Then you go and see someone at your school to send it then.

It's not automatic, but it doesn't need to be done before acceptance.

Thanks for the clarification davisengineer. Unfortunately I listed reading and composition courses in the Berkeley application update; do you think I should call them and request them to change it? I thought you had to take those courses and replaced some science courses with these.

aha i see, thanks for the info

Yes! I got a 3.2 my fall quarter of sophomore year dropping my GPA from 3.76 to 3.62. Am I screwed as an econ transfer to cal, ucla, and ucsd? I'm currently at UCI. I heard sophomore grades didn't matter cuz UCs are extremely slow... sorta like how senior grades didn't matter.

Everyone at Berkeley has told me that they consider sophomore grades just as much as they consider freshman grades. This isn't good for me either. I had my worst quarter in the Fall of sophomore year.

On the transfer applicant PDF file, Berkeley says that one of the conditions they consider is "Grade trends", but I'm not quite sure how serious that is.

Does anyone know when we should request a letter of UC reciprocity from our current school? I imagine any time after we know our schedule for spring quarter and are certain we will complete reciprocity would be appropriate but I wasn't sure. Anyone know anything about this process?

This was answered a few posts higher.

does anyone else know when ucla's admission decision site is going up? all the other schools let you log in for admission status already.

go to the schools website (i know at least UCLA has this) but you should be able to find a list of average gpa with average number of units transferred for students broken down by major. (actually maybe this is just for UCLA) anyway a 3.6 is still a solid gpa, should be good enough for UCLA, i dont know about Cal, I've heard you have no real shot without at least a 3.8 but then again i've also heard stories of people transferring from state schools with 3.5s and lower who get in on appeal. in fact it seems like 9/10 an appeal works if you have a legitimate argument. good luck.

and by the way whoever said it im pretty sure sophomore grades matter a lot, more than freshman even because they are your most recent they will see in making their decision.

thanks, sorry for my laziness.

i found this thread so i thought id revive it.

anyway, im considering transferring from berkeley to ucla after one year. how do i begin the process?
