UC to UC transfer advice

Hello everybody. I’m a current UCR Freshman, and I’m looking for advice on transferring. Now don’t get me wrong, I like UC Riverside, and I would be fine with staying there for all of my undergrad education. However, due to family issues, I feel that being closer to home would make my life much easier. And it would also save me money on housing and such.

I’m from Irvine so I was thinking that UCI is my best option. I’d be able to live with my parents. I was also thinking of throwing in an application for UCLA and UCSD just for the hell of it (doubt I'd get in, but doesn't hurt to try). I don’t really have anything to lose (other than the application fee). The way I see it, either I get into UCI and am able to live close at home or I don’t and I’ll be able to stay at a great UC.

Is it possible to transfer in one year? How do people even do that? With a lot of AP credits? If someone was able to do it, wouldn't they only spend 2 years at the university they transferred to, since they would be considered Junior transfers?

Would contacting a UCI/SD/LA advisor be the best course of action?

Right now I'm signed up for 15 units fall quarter (Chem, English, Calculus + CNAS Learning community seminars and workshops). I'm almost done with Summer Bridge, final is on the 14th. That will give me 7 units for summer quarter (Math 5 + Math 2).

I am the same as you @ComradeKat, except I am going to be a freshman at UCSC this fall. I wouldnt mind staying at Santa Cruz either, but I am targeting UCLA, UCSD, UCB and UCI. I have the same question on how people can transfer within one year? I am also taking 15/17 units (CHEM1A, CALCULUS for science and engineering, and ENGLISH, and most likely a 2 unit UCSC GE requirement course) this fall quarter.
I have taken some APs [Psychology(4), Statistics(4), APUSH(4), Biology(4), Microeconomics(4)] so I dont know how many units I will receive for this.

UCR to UCI is definitely possible…but if you’re gona go to UCI, why not just enroll in community college. The classes are so much easier and there’s way less stress. To be competitive for UCI, u need to earn a 3.3-3.5 at UCR. If you go to community college, you can get a 3.0 and TAG to UCI. IVC is a great school in irvine. Idk why ur wasting all your money at ucr. Im from Irvine and went to IVC

UCI tag now has a minimum GPA of a 3.4. Too many people have been tagging UCI so they had to increase the GPA requirement.

Because I want a full 4 year college experience. Why go to a community college if a full 4 year university accepted me? And I’m not really wasting money, I got the enough financial aid to cover most of my tuition. Rest is just housing and other fees. Didn’t really see a reason to go to IVC. Not to mention all the horror stories I’ve heard from friends about getting their classes.
