UC to Uc transfer, biology major 2.9 gpa... chances over?

im trying to transfer from ucsc to uci, ucsb, or ucsd. Is a 2.9 biology major out of contention?

Its gonna be very slim chances. not impossible though

and do these ucs read personal statements? or is it just ucla and ucb that do?

Like the above poster said, your chances are very slim. In your case, essays will probably matter. They will be interested as to why you think you deserve a spot at their campus with a GPA below the average.

Of the schools you listed in your first post, only UCI reads the personal statement:

Could you share why exactly do you want to leave UCSC, is it not that academically challenging/rewarding? I am thinking I might end up there next fall.

with a 2.9 your going to have a hard time at UCI, Bio is crazy competitive there.

every year they eliminate the bottom 15% of the bio class.

yea, ucsc is hell. u dont want to be here oliver twist unless ur a hardcore stoner or a surfer. but after a year, both get old real quick.

UCSC really isn’t that bad. i’m a soph here (albeit i’m trying to transfer out as well) and i have nothing against the school at all. i’m not even close to being a stoner or surfer, but i’ve had such a great time here. if you can dispose of all your negative feelings towards the place and have an open mind/personality, then you can really have a great time. freshman year i was kind of in the same boat where i just wanted to get out, but i didn’t want that to keep me down. i’ve seen so many people here who have that “■■■ I NEED TO GET OUT” attitude and if they just continue on with that, of course they will only see the bad parts of ucsc.
if i don’t get into ucla or ucb, i’d still take sc over ucsd/davis.

If you think Santa Cruz is hell, you definitely have not given it a chance. I thought Santa Cruz was hell my freshman year. I was in a small triple with two roommates that clashed with my personality. My floor was pretty loud and rambunctious. So during this time I worked hard in my studies and was convinced that I would transfer somewhere after a couple years.

My family members encouraged me to try to make my next year at UCSC better than the first. I got involved in a few clubs, became close to professors and senior students in my major, got a job, and suddenly the school wasn’t so bad anymore. I started to meet other students who were serious about school and I am now enjoying my time here. For the record, I don’t drink, smoke, or party and I don’t hang out with those who do.

While I still plan to transfer, I don’t consider UCSC “hell” by any means. While it is much easier to make friends with those who drink and smoke, there is a good percentage of students who give a damn about their studies.
