UC to UC transfer?

I am going to be a sophomore at UCD and I want to transfer to UCI or UCSD or UCLA. I have a 3.34 GPA as a biological sciences major. However, I failed two courses over a summer class due to a family loss. I got a D in one and an F in the other. Must I report these/will they find out? How much will they affect my chances of getting accepted? And how much will these CC courses affect me getting into med school too?

You have to report them and yes they will find out because you have to send in your transcripts. Unless of course you have figured out a way to have classes disappear from transcripts. What were the classes? Can you do Academic Renewal, so they at least may not be computed into your GPA while transferring? As for med school they will be counted for certain into your overall GPA when applying.

You must report all classes and grades, regardless of what classes they were or where you took them. They will definitely find out if you don’t report them. And if you don’t, you will be in some serious trouble.

@UCBhopeful16 they were both GE classes. I thought that CC classes didn’t count into your UC GPA o__o

Also, if I retake the equivalent courses at UCD for those two summer classes, will they see the ones I failed at the CC? I don’t think I have time to do academic renewal before I transfer. How much do you think these courses will affect my chances of getting into UCI, UCSD, or UCLA? I will definitely raise my GPA.

To clear up my confusion, you are a student at UCD, during the summer you took 2 classes, which you did not pass, at a local CC?

@UCBhopeful16 Yup that’s correct :/

Okay, if the GE classes were UC transferable they will counted in the GPA while you’re trying to transfer. I can certainly say that the classes just do not disappear into thin air.

They don’t factor into your UC GPA as in the GPA that shows up on your UCD transcript. That’s the one you’re talking about. The “UC GPA” they do factor into is the one the admissions people see when you’re applying to the UC’s. It’s quite confusing and they should call the “UC GPA” used for admissions by some other term IMO.

Anyway, your GPA as it stands is not competitive enough for UCLA and UCSD (probably 0% chance for UCSD Biology/related). I’m even doubtful about UCI as it is becoming more popular especially within the Biological Sciences. Your CC grades are just going to drag that GPA down even more. UC-UC transfers have lower priority than CCC transfers (except at UCLA). All this leads me to conclude that these grades will indeed negatively affect your chances of getting accepted, especially if they are pre-requisites.

A 3.34 is not high enough for med school IMO. If that’s your ultimate goal, I suggest you stay put at UCD and bring that GPA back up. Do the academic renewal thing next summer for sure, don’t just let the D and F sit there.

Anyway, if your mind is still set on transferring, your absolute last shot is Fall Quarter. That’s the final quarter they will consider for admissions. Load up on units and aim for straight A’s I guess.
