Does anyone have any experience or know anyone who transfered from a UC to another UC? I want to transfer out of UCSB and into something like SD LA or B. I have a friend that graduated from UCSC and said that many of his friends got 3.5’s their freshmen year and were able to transfer into berkley and LA. Anyone want to confirm or debunk such claims?

Yes, it is possible to transfer from one UC to another. It's just harder, that's all.

Why would you want to transfer from UCSB? It is the best school!!! I would go to UCSB over SD, LA, B anyday.

To each their own; some people just aspire to attend UCLA, UCSD, or Berkeley, but could not make it in as a freshman. As far as UC to UC transfers are concerned, its more than possible. A 3.5 GPA puts you in okay standing for a transfer. It'll really depend what department of what school you transfer into. For example, Berkeley's Engineering department will require a 3.8 GPA to be a competitive transfer candidate. Another thing to consider is the difference in difficulty of courses you will encounter when you climb the tiers of the UCs. UCSC to UCLA is going to put the UCSC student at a disadvantage to all the higher performing UCLA students.

SoCal18, to you..UCSB is the best school but to madkapitolist...it's not.

What about from Cal undecided to UCSD bioE?

I got in for both, but I'm afraid I made a mistake in choosing Cal.

Generally, a transfer from one UC to another is no big deal if you are in good standing academically, aren't transferring to a campus in an impacted major, and fill out the paperwork on time. If you want to transfer as a soph, the paperwork needs to be in before winter break this year. If you want to transfer sooner, that would require transfer papers to be filed virtually as soon as you arrive on campus to begin the academic year.

I thought that the UCs only accept transfers at the Junior level?

If you have a special reason or really beg, there's a chance at getting accepted at another level. I got accepted into Davis as a senior.

No way, Berkeley is the best. :)

But on a serious note, why do you think you made a mistake?

I feel that I can't compete with the kids there. I think I'll fail miserably and get my ass handed to me on a silver platter. :(

Also, the BioE major at UCSD is ranked fairly high, isn't it?

UCSD is ranked number 1 in BioE. Cal is ranked around 12.

UCSD's bioE program is impacted, which means you can only get into it as a freshman. You can't transfer into it.
