uc to uc transfers

i've just been admitted to ucsc and ucr, and am having a hard time choosing which one to go to. either way, my aim is to transfer to ucb, ucla or ucsd. what are my chances for transferring, if i maintain a high gpa? i'm going to be an engineering major, either electrical or computer. i've heard that uc to uc transfer are not very likely, and are even discouraged, but if anyone has actually gone through the procedure, i'd like to know how it worked out. my parents are not willing to send me to a cc, so that possibility is ruled out for me.

any help would be much appreciated! thanks :)

nothings impossible… but obviously you will have to work a little harder. given that priority is given to CC students versus inner-transfer (UC to UC) transfer students.

hey, thanks. would you happen to know anyone who’s done a uc to uc transfer?
also, on another note, santa cruz vs. riverside? i’m not sure where to go, but i’m being pulled to both schools for different reasons. riverside seems to be more quiet, and i’ve heard santa cruz is a party school, so i’m kinda torn. i’m not really much of a party person, at all, really. but santa cruz is supposed to have a better computer engineering program. though i guess it doesn’t really matter, since the bottom line is i want to transfer. anyway, i’d be thankful for some advice!

i don’t know much of either… but some things you might want to take into consideration are…

1) Does this college suit you? can you see yourself doing well at this college? academically… socially…

2) Remember it’s not the college you attend. but what you take from it. how well can you use the resources surrounding you? A well rounded student isn’t a 4.0 student. it’s a student who can land those important internships, as well as strive academically.

hope this helps

:D

I went to riverside and am undergoing a UC to UC transfer…with Comm college inbetween…I can tell u i wish I had just gone to comm college and done TAG ( fortunately though, UCSD and UCSB will tag people who went to a UC before aka me)

I got into ucsc and ucr too …I dont really regret it over santa cruz but it’s definitely different…visit both and decide?

the thing is, i actually don’t live in california. so i can’t really visit the schools to decide. why did you choose ucr over ucsc? also, i thought tag was only for community colleges…

TAG is only for community colleges…but what I did was for freshman year went to UCR…soph year went to community college and found out that UCSD/SB would still do tag for me…

I chose UCR over UCSC because…for one its closer to home, I live in so cal…UCSC is like maybe 30-45 mins south of san jose, which in itself is like 20 mins from san fran. UCSC is also kind of isolated in the woods on a big hill and has a large liberal pot smoking population. Academically I think both schools are similar. The thing about UCR is that it’s in Riverside…ugh…riverside is pretty crappy and has a bad reputation (UC Rejects ha ha)…I dont know if you can do tag in a cc not in california though…

Which state are u from?

i live in india, lol. i’m planning to move to california, because that’s where i used to live before, and my parents are there. i wanna stay close to home (parents live around san jose), so i think ucsc is probably a better option for me. though i’m kinda concerned about the drug scene there… but my rents are not willing to send me to a cc, so tag isn’t gonna work.

anyway, if you know anyone who’s done a transfer from a lower uc to one of the top, i’d like to know about that.

thanks :)

i am a second year at ucsc and i just got accepted to ucsd this week! and sb when they first released decisions so intercampus transfers aren’t impossible! i think i had around a 3.34 during the january update. just do as many prereqs as you can and sign uc recipcoricty(sp?). its honestly not as hard as everyone says it is. i know a bunch of people who have transferred out of ucsc to a different uc. good luck!

oh wow, that’s great! congrats.

what major are you?

what did you think of ucsc? i really want as many opinions as i can get, so it’d be really great if you could help me out!

i am an undeclared business management economics major at sc and i applied as a communications major everywhere else. Santa Cruz doesn’t have communication which is one of my reasons for transferring. Santa Cruz is…hippie, easy, a lot of pot smokers. i don’t know where you’re from or what kind of people you grew up with. there aren’t as many beautiful people here as there might be in ucla. the classes here are relatively easy. i wanna say almost high school level. i barely study and still do well in all my classes. but then again i’m not taking ochem or anything. PM me if you want more info.

I can vouch for the possibility of UC to UC transfers. They really aren’t as impossible as most people suggest. The key, I think, is a kick-ass personal statement and some challenging coursework (at least in my case I believe it was; my GPA isn’t the best, but I took upper-div courses every quarter).

I’m at UCI with a 3.38 GPA and got accepted into UCSB and UCSD. I recently attended the UCLA Arts Dept Open House where they told me I had a 99.8% chance of getting in at that point (that 0.02% were rejected for failing classes, not meeting prereqs, etc). I’m waiting on Cal, but the weather turns me off a bit so I won’t cry if I’m rejected (though the people are AMAZING if you don’t mind not having near constant warm temps; after all they got in for a reason).

My roommate transferred from UCSC to UCLA as a physics major.

He says there’s little competition at UCSC (big pothead school) so it’s easy to get above the curve.
