UC transfer AP credit

Hi everyone, just a bit anxious about UC transfers. Do you guys know if they accept an AP score of 3 for English Literature? If I remember correctly, my counselor said that I might have to take an English course after I transfer but I was wondering if it is enough to fulfill the transfer English requirements (also, I checked with multiple counselors and they didn’t say anything about it). I got an admission, but I’m extremely nervous for UCI and UCSD since they are more selective.

I know that some of the UCs like Berkeley require a 5 for AP English exams in order to skip a writing requirement

I see, thank you!

UC is a bit vague about this. The page Basic requirements | UC Admissions says AP credit can count for only one of the two English classes required but doesn’t say what score is needed. You might want to email or call the school to ask.

Score of 3 will give you 5.3 semester or 8 quarter units (but may be cancelled if you take a duplicating English course). Click on each campus link to see what subject credit a score of 3, 4, or 5 may give at that campus.

I chatted with the admissions help page and I think I should be alright. As long as I’m certified for UC IGETC, it means that I completed the requirements. They also mentioned that a 3 fulfills UC entry level writing requirements. Thank you!

Thanks! It seems that I received some credit. I was just hoping that it was enough for transfer and I didn’t need a 4 or higher.

The UC entry level writing requirement is the prerequisite for the “Two transferable courses in English composition” that are part of the basic transfer requirements.

mhm! The three was enough to fulfill one of the english composition courses and I completed the other one last year. Seems like I’ve been worrying too much haha
