UC Transfer Application AP Course in place of 1 required english course

Hi Everyone, I am currently completing the UC transfer application and while entering my academic history, I was asked about my english course, due to passing the AP english exams, I thought I was given credit for one of the required courses for transferring, so I only took one advanced writing course. I am presented with this screen where it asks me for my second course and if I have it planned, completed, in progress and etc. I have currently placed that I have completed the second course, and named it as the AP course.

my question is that is this valid and okay to do? or am I required to take another course? I have just sent in a tag and am worried that if I change up my plan, my tag might be seen as voided.

You need a sufficiently high AP score that the UC will accept in substitution for a writing course.

What was your AP score on which test, and what UC and major are you targeting? What writing course at what college did you take?

@ucbalumnus I got a three on both ap English tests and planning to transfer to UCI Santa Cruz, I took an advanced composition course at my local community college and passed with a B

If it’s IGETC, it’s fine. With breadth, I’m not sure. I think some colleges/departments want a score of 4.

@Ohm888 I’m not expecting it to count as a course over at another UC, but just for admission is what I am looking for

http://admissions.ucsc.edu/publications/ap-ib-chart.pdf and http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/exam-credit/ap-credits/santa-cruz/index.html indicates that you need a 4 or 5 on an AP English test to satisfy an English composition 1 (C1) course at UCSC.

However, if you get IGETC certified, UCSC will consider you to have completed lower division general education requirements, which appear to include the English composition 1 and 2 (C1 and C2) requirements.

If you have more questions, you may want to ask UCSC directly.

@ucbalumnus sadly I won’t be able to complete IGETC by that time, oh well, I have no problem with taking another english course anyway and thanks for the help! I will be meeting with a UCSC representative at my school on monday to clear things up!
