UC transfer chances

I applied to

Cal - economics,
UCLA - math/economics joint major,
UCSD - math/economics joint major,
Davis - economics,
UCSC -economics,
UCSB - math/economics joint major.

For those UC’s which offered math/economics joint major, I also applied under economics as an alternate major.

GPA: 3.67
IGETC: will be completed by spring
HONORS program (UCLA TAP certified)
EC’s: working 20+ hours/week for the past 5-6 years, member of Health & Nutrition Club, BizEcon Club (nothing fancy)
ESSAYS: talked about my life in ukraine and how that inspired me to pursue econ, my interest in inter-disciplinary studies, my diversity, and me taking courses at my community college as a high school student.

Here’s the thing…

I made the decision to go for math in addition to econ just this last quarter. I have A BUNCH of math to complete for my major.

I took courses at my community college as a high school student and have 2 C’s (that are unfortunately UC transferable) from those years… This is bringing my GPA down from like a 3.8-3.9 to a 3.67. I talked about this in my essay, though.

Here’s the breakdown of my major req’s and my progress:

Cal
(econ) all but 1 completed… that one in progress. 4.0 major GPA.

UCLA
(math/econ) 4 courses completed 3 in progress 3 planned. 4.0 major GPA.
(econ-alt major) all courses completed. 3.8 major GPA.

UCSD
(math/econ) 4 courses completed 1 in progress 2 planned. 4.0 major GPA.
(econ-alt major) 4 courses completed 1 in progress. 4.0 major GPA.

Davis
(econ) all courses completed. 3.6 major GPA.

UCSC
(econ) 4 courses completed 1 in progress 1 not even planned. 4.0 major GPA

UCSB
(math/econ) 4 courses completed 2 in progress 2 planned. 4.0 major GPA.

Phew!
ok so my top choice would have to be either Cal or UCLA followed by UCSD. The rest… I kind of haven’t given much thought.

Any and all help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Can you list your courses out with grades instead of saying so much there?
For example:
Math 1 (A)
Econ 1 (A)
something like that...

decent chances for all. just wait it and out and see.

in fact, come join the UC decision date countdown thread...ahah. sorry i had to throw that plug in...

how bout me?

EE Major
GPA: 3.78

Applied: UCI, UCSB, UCSD, UCLA, UCB, UCD

When you post your stats, please be specific as possible, the GPA alone can not really determine one's chance... other factors are essential too like having finishing the major requirement, extra activities, awards, special talents and so on... If possible, please list your course with the grade and any relevant factor ...

I'm listing my community college courses & (grades) followed by the [UC equivalent].

I'm afraid this + my original post is as specific as I can get. I have no extraordinary EC's (just the part-time work + clubs) but I do have an interesting background (growing up in the Ukraine in the late 1980's, early 1990's... which I talked about in my essay) that inspired me to pursue economics. I also have taken a wide array of courses that are outside of my major/igetc... I talked about this interest in inter-disciplinary studies in my essay as well.

Thanks guys!

Thanks CardinalFocused! I've actually been watching that thread a little obsessively! Just haven't been bold enough to voice my anxiety about the whole waiting-game. The more I seem to talk about it, the worse it gets.... can you relate?

& thanks so much for doing the countdown! Do you know when Davis/UCSC decisions come out?

Less than a month till UCSB/UCSD! I'm def. excited.

Hey luba,

I think the more I talk about it, the better. Everyone on here relates and seems to calm my nerves to a certain extent. Besides, you and me have very similar gpa and have both have UCLA tap certification. The admissions rate for students with Tap Certifications and high gpas must be insanely high, considering the admissions rate for just plain tap certifications is somewhere around ninety percent. So I'm confident in both of our chances, yet I would not go so far as calling UCLA a lock or a 'safety' or anything. For one, I think people who call such a great university a safety is an a-hole and I don't want to jinx myself.

Not sure about Davis/UCSC but I think that info should be available on your "My Davis...My UCSC" sites.

Good Luck luba =] Cheers to waiting in agony for the decision dates*

K here it is:

Calculus II, III, Linear Algebra - A

Physics I, II - C, A

Writing I, II - A, A

Chemistry I, II - B, A

Pascal, C++, Assembly Language - A, A, A

EC: Vice President - Engineering Club
10 hr. volunteer work
work in library 10hr/week

Luba...

Cal - economics, (reach)
UCLA - math/economics joint major, (very slight reach--almost match)
UCSD - math/economics joint major, (match)
Davis - economics, (match)
UCSC -economics, (safety)
UCSB - math/economics joint major. (safety)

thanks kevin!

Actually, your GPA is very similar to mine; your major is very similar to mine so yeah what a coincident!
