I am going to apply for transfer this fall. I currently have a 3.5, but will be able to pull up my GPA by the end of fall to 3.66. Currently taking summer school, and finished all my major req. I will be taking 17 units this fall, but all GEs. My major is Econ. and my major GPA is 3.63. Will finish 63 units by this fall.

I have two jobs and hours each week is 40+. Have ECs and do sports. Been on the Dean's list for the last 4 semesters. (Messed up my first two semesters in CC) Been gettings A's but one B for the past 4 semesters. 2 C's and 2 B's total, so far.

I am applyin to all UCs and USC. What are my chances? *I can handle the truth! So please reply, thanks so much people!

i think you have excellent chances of getting into usc, ucsd, ucd, ucsb, uci, ucsc, ucr, and ucm.

your chances are pretty good for ucla, and fairly good for berkeley as well. both of those schools are iffy when it comes to admissions, but i would say that if your gpa is a 3.5 at the time you apply, and can improve to a 3.6 by the time you update your application with your fall 2005 grades, i'm sure you have a very decent shot, especially if you have a good amount of ec's and can write some great personal statements. your major may be impacted at many, if not all the schools you are applying to, which could impact your chances of admission. you will have to check.

heh. alright, well then i believe your chances are good.

which university would you most like to attend? i could possibly give you more information about the school you are most interested in.

it's great that you will get your major requirements out of the way. thats a definite plus. will you be igetc certified by the time you graduate? universities like transfers to have all their general education out of the way by the time they enter the school.

Yes. I will complete my IGETC when I graduate. I want to shoot for UCLA's international/econ major.

Thanks for your input. I am having a hard time to sleep at night already, and it's not even time to apply yet. I know it sounds crazy, but pressure coming from parents and relatives... sigh*

I would say just do your best and keep in mind that you have excellent chances.

just focus this coming fall semester and pull up your gpa if you can. your gpa is a very significant factor when it comes to admission, but grade trends are also important. if you show improvement, it will certainly be a swaying factor. you have a stable gpa, but a 3.6 would make you more competitive.

i was also biting my nails throughout the application process, but everything turned out in my favor in the end. just think good thoughts, and realize that you have many, many choices. if you don't get into ucla then you have several other excellent choices. if you can, visit these schools and get to know some of the campuses you are applying to. while my dream school was uc berkeley, i learned that after visiting the campus, i would also enjoy uc davis. it's nice to have a realistic back up school that you could see yourself enjoying. that gave me a peice of mind, and hopefully it will do the same for you.

i know it's a lot of pressure, but be strong, and good luck!

Both of my B's are from my two calculus courses, which is the major req. for Econ... Does that affect my transfer chances alot? (All other major req. are A's)

don't worry about it. i'll help any way i can. during my application time period, i got to know the whole UC admissions process really well (a.k.a. i obsessed for a while, haha).

if you have any more questions, swing them my way.

You're in at davis, irvine, santa barbara probable in at sand diego but I don't knew as much about it. You have a good chance at UCLA and berkeley too I think if you can get the gpa up to 3.66

Have a strong fall, and a good summer and you've got a great chance at all of the UC's except UCLA and Berkeley... And even then you've got a decent shot at both Berkeley and UCLA.

As far as GPAs go, Econ is typically very competitive, so I'd say you'd probably literally need a 4.0 in order to consider UCLA or Berkeley a safety.

i think he meant a 'safe' gpa. about a year before i appplied to the uc's, my community college counselor told me to maintain a 3.7 gpa to be a competitive applicant. the summer before application time, i took three summer classes online at foothill college, a cc on the quarter system. it was an intense six weeks, but i managed three a's, which boosted my gpa quite a bit. I think I had a 3.69 at the time I applied, and after straight a's the following fall and winter, well above a 3.7. if you plan on majoring in econ, im not sure what a competitive gpa would be, but i would only imagine it being higher.

i would say nail those summer classes and try as hard as possible to have a very productive fall semester. a 4.0 is never safe, as i know students with that gpa who were rejected by both ucberkeley and ucla.

OMG! This college thing is killing my brain cells.. LOL..jkjk

Well.. since I finished all my major req. classes... For my fall schedule.. all of the classes are GEs..which are all 101 introductory classes. Will that be a put off? No course difficulties? I'm tryin to add more classes, so I can raise that GPA... this is a torture!
