UC Transfer Course Dilema

I'm applying to transfer to a UC in the Fall as an Economics major and I'm having trouble deciding wether I should take Calculus I or not. Its a Lower-Division Major course for all the schools I'm applying to.

I took AP Calc in high-school and scored a 3 on the AB test. The Community College I'm at now considers this to be an acceptable pre-req for the Calculus II class which I have signed up for Spring 2014.

Now certain schools that I'm applying to don't consider my score of 3 to be an acceptable equivalent of Calculus I, so I was considering taking it again the following semester along with Calculus II.

It seems a bit redundant to be taking Calculus I and Calculus II at the same time so I was wondering wether I should take Calculus I or not.

UC Berkeley - ("Students with a score of 3 on Calc AB should take MATH 1A"), UCLA (Only counts for GE credit), UCSD (Exempt from Calculus I), UCD (Only counts for GE credit), UCI (Elective credit only), UCSB (Exempt from Calculus I)

I don't mind taking it to maximize my chances but my counselor is sort of discouraging me saying it would look a little odd. It would also push my unit count to 78.. Dangerously close to that 80 unit cap.
