UC Transfer Fall 2008

I wish my school offered it...

we have it but too lazy to finish all the courses!

i just want to ask regarding about the Tap program, is there ever too late to do the Tap program, do you have to do it in your Freshman year when you first go to your college? or like can i just apply for it now despite im not in my first year anymore?

nancie- you can join honors program anytime to get TAP certified!

It's not too late to join, but you must complete the program by the end of spring if you're a fall applicant. Depending on your cc's honors program, you might be able to receive honors credit this semester by fulfilling contracts (not sure exactly how this works though). Some programs offer honors credit for advanced math and science courses; some allow honors courses to transfer from other cc's; some offer honors courses during the winter/summer session. Review the specifics for your cc's honors program and try to join even if you can't meet a requirement. My primary cc's program requires that students enroll in 12 units each semester, but i could not meet this requirement. long story short, i'm attending several cc's (no consortium agreement) and the honors program director waived the requirement for me.

Ektaylor: You must still report any AP exam scores in which a score of 3, 4 or 5 was received. These exams are considered college level credit and you sign the application stating that all college level credit is listed on the application.

Thank you for you message, are you applying this fall, also

East Los Angeles College to UCB/UCLA

Pre-reqs: In progress
IGETC: In progress
UCLA Army ROTC,SHPE,Engineering Club.
Honors Program
Dean's Honor list (spring 07)

No TAP (school does not have it)

Thank you for your message, are you applying this fall?

Im not sure if im still eligable to become tap ceritified there is a tap conference coming up soon at UCLA, should I go?

if there is a way for me to do tap still, ill do it, ill bust my ass if i have to.

also INCH what to do you know about tap?

also does anybody know anything about the CONTRACTS available at UC Irvine, Irvine is better than riverside it seems.

lsdguy, i'm applying to ucla, ucb, ucsb, ucd and ucsd this fall as an econ major. i also intend to minor in poli sci so that i can concentrate on political theory.

You should attend the tap conference, which is on tues, nov. 13th, if you think you'll benefit from it (i believe that it can be listed as an ec on the application for admission, but i'm not sure). the conference will foucs on opportunities available at ucla. You can view the flyer and other docs here: <a href="http://www.college.ucla.edu/up/tap/conference.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.college.ucla.edu/up/tap/conference.htm</a>. i will likely attend (but that'll mean a day of missed classes).

ucla's tap, if certified, gives you priority consideration for admission to the college of letters and science. to be tap certified, you have to complete elac's honors program by the end of this spring (if you're a fall 08 applicant). The requirements for completing elac's honors program can be seen here: <a href="http://www.elac.edu/departments/honorsprog/about.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.elac.edu/departments/honorsprog/about.htm</a>. However, completing six honors courses in a little over a semester will be difficult, and i don't recommend it.

enhanced, elac's honors program is listed as a member of ucla's tap at this site: <a href="http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/ADM_CCO/tap.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/ADM_CCO/tap.htm</a>. ucla's tap, however, is useful for applicants to the college of letters and science and not so much for other colleges, such as engineering, unless you want to be considered for an alternate major in the college of letters and science. also, i believe elac is affiliated with ucb's tap, which is significantly different from ucla's tap.

I was thiniking UCLA, UCI, UCSB, and UCR as distant forth, two close to home, one by the beach, and one that everyone seems to have an easy time getting into. There is a great stat that 86% of transfer students get into at least one of the college's, maybe not the one they choose but i will be accepted to one.

I was thinkin of going to that tap conference as well as the personal statement workshop at ucla on oct. 20th.

the greatest thing i think we have in our favor is coming from east los angeles college.

My primary cc is rhc in whittier, but i have attended elac (it has a better math department). i might take a course at elac in the winter session/spring semester though.

I'll also probably attend the personal statement workshop at ucla, but there's also an ags conference on the same day. Did you go to the first personal statement workshop?

no i was not aware of the first personal statement workshop, the university center told me its cool though, just show up with a rough draft.

Once you get the fee waiver for four UC's, can you still apply for other uc' s or are you planning to apply for 5 by paying for them all?

god i want to get into UCLA so bad, do you know about transfer acceptance guarntee from UC irvine?

ill be at the university center tomarrow around ten. just to check in , and fight about other uc's, you gonna be there dood?

What personal statement workshops are you guys talking about? At your CC's transfer center, not at UCLA right? Just checking.

University of Alaska Southeast
Major: Mathematics
G.P.A: 3.71
Applying To: UCSD (SDSU as safety)
Pre-reqs: In progress
IGETC: Nope
EC/Work:
Marine Corps Vet w/2 combat deployments.
Does marriage count as work experience? (;
I'm starting volunteer math tutoring this month.
Dean's honor list. I guess that's an honor to put down?
Phi Theta Kappa: I've got an invite, would it be worth it to join?

My application is a little weird. I've got near straight A's except for a single quarter where I got B's and a C. Basically, I really felt out of touch after getting out and was sort of bumming around on my GI Bill. It came to a head last year when I neglected my studies pretty thoroughly to pursue a couple business ventures. I've rededicated myself since, though, and actually found an academic purpose. All stuff I can explain.

I don't think I'll be getting priority admission, either. I'm a California resident, and I've got a couple of semesters + at CCCs, but I'm studying at the University of Alaska this year. I guess it's good that math isn't impacted.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Joe

so when does one fill out TAP paperwork if one is applying for fall08?

einna, ucla's center for community college partnerships (cccp) is having their second saturday academy, another personal statement workshop, at ucla on oct. 20th from 10am to 2pm. A room has not been set yet, but an email with more details is supposed to be sent out in the next week through cccp's mailing list. you can subscribe to the mailing list here: <a href="http://www.ugeducation.ucla.edu/aap/cccp/mailinglist.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.ugeducation.ucla.edu/aap/cccp/mailinglist.html</a></p>

the workshop is for anyone considering applying for the fall of 08. i went to the first one, and there were about 100 people, including some freshmen applicants. you can just show up (preferably with a draft), but i recommend that you rsvp.

i received an email about the second workshop about a week ago through the mailing list. it basically has the same info i have just reported, except it included a flyer for the workshop and some worksheets from the first one. I have put these docs in a zip file that you can download from this link: <a href="http://rapidshare.com/files/61742119/uclapersonalstatement.zip.html%5B/url%5D">http://rapidshare.com/files/61742119/uclapersonalstatement.zip.html</a> (figure it out)

lsdguy, i was going to waive the fees for 4 and pay an additional $60 when i apply.

about tag for uci, i found this site that seems to have all the answers: <a href="http://www.admissions.uci.edu/tag.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.admissions.uci.edu/tag.html</a></p>

are you asking if i'll be at elac's transfer center tomorrow? nah, i'll be at rhc then. Besides, i don't even know where the transfer center is at (by the administration building?). i've never had to utilize any cc's transfer center. Can you believe that at rhc university reps just sit out in the open at tables among crowds of passing-by students!

rshaan, you don't need to fill anything out. as long as you complete your cc's honors program (assuming it's a member of ucla's tap) by the spring before transfer, you will be tap certified. the certification is handled by your cc's honors program director (i think a list tap certified students is sent to ucla sometime in spring from your cc).

thanks lnch

, so you NEED to do all the major preqreqs for UCI?
thats a *
-- they want 4 math classes from me!

while the certification is done between your cc's honors program and ucla, one form does require the student's signature (along with the tap coordinator/counselor's) that "authorizes 'UCLA to release application information to the TAP Director/Counselor.... The TAP Director and Counselor's signatures acknowledge that the 'applicant has met the requirements of the Honors/Scholars Program and is certified for the TAP Guaranteed Priority Consideration for admission to UCLA College'." this form is signed sometime between mid jan and late feb. you can read more about the certification process here: <a href="http://www.college.ucla.edu/up/tap/faq.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.college.ucla.edu/up/tap/faq.htm</a></p>
