I was just wondering if anyone knew how UC Gift Aid / Scholarship Recognition worked for UCs. Schools like UCLA and UCI have given me 8k and 6k respectively. But two other schools which I am considering, UCSD and UCSB have offered me nothing in that category. To me, these are two huge differences in numbers... in the same UC system. (these numbers were given to me on the 'Unofficial Award Lists') I am an econ major, and numbers are extremely important to me =D
Does anyone know why there would be such a difference?
Should I send SD and SB emails wondering why I didnt get the same financial aid that I had received from LA or Irvine? (I'll probably do this for sure)

I got different numbers for each school I have been admitted to as well, that’s normal. They probably have more gift aid for one school and less for others. Not a big deal.

haha only a 3.6 =/ i dont know how i got so much either

but yea, i see a HUGE difference between 6-8k and 0 … id understand if SD and SB gave me a few thousand in grants, or a few hundred in grants, but 0 was quite surprising to me

are the unofficial Financial Aid Awards final for now (until we enroll etc)?
should i be expecting more grants from the schools that gave me nothing compared to those who gave me a few thousand?

what is your EFC or whatever? My family pulls in a little more than $85K, and I got zero help from any school I was accepted to (cal state east bay, ucsc, ucsb, ucb).

2nd Durian. UCSD and Cal gave me the most. UCSB and UCLA gave me the least. It really does seem like a crap shoot in regard to financial aid. Totally random.

It’s the Expected Family Contribution, the figure offsets how eligibility for grants? The more EFC, the more you are expected to contribute towards the cost of school.

my EFC is $0 and my household gross is $0, thats because I was a ‘ward of the state’ (an orphan). I’m getting about $20,000 in aid from each school but it does change a little from UC to UC. I believe I recieve the max you can get.
