UC transfer in my first quarter with advice.

hi guys.

i'm in my first quarter at ucla and thought i'd share a few thoughts i had on the transfer process.

1) your counselors know much less than you may think.

it's a real pain in the arse, but check course syllabi and compare it to what your major requirements are. i am stuck taking pre-major history (1A) this quarter because my civ class@JC only partially transferred. same with a music enthomology course, which i'm going to be forced to petition for credit.

2) finish up HTP, don't let the loose ends stay loose.

3) don't be intimidated into not applying for a school.

i didn't think i could hang discipline-wise at a UC because of my poor work ethic. there is motivation to get things done here, even for lazy students. you'll change, believe it or not. i shouldn't say jinxing things like this during midterms week...but oh well.

i'm going to be doing a lot of reading tonight, but if anyone has any questions for someone that did the transfer in two years...i'll try and help if i can. i know applications are almost due.

best,

mike

what is your major? and what do you mean by HTP?

are the people there really as stuck up as people have been telling me? how difficult is it to make friends?
how’d you do on your midterms!?! :>

sorry for the late reply…i’ve been busy.

people here aren’t really stuck up, it’s just a matter of priorities. everyone has a schedule and is for the most part driven/busy.

you’ll make plenty of friends in your discussions or living situation.

my midterms went alright. an A-, B+, and B-. i have fallen behind for finals however. i’m a history major.
