UC Transfer in One Year

Hi I’m currently a senior in high school and I have recently gotten rejected from all my target colleges, so therefore I am planning on transferring to a UC. It would be great if any of you guys could just give tips and general information on how to get started. I already have some AP credits as well as some CC credit. But I am having trouble knowing where to start and how to plan my classes even with using Assist as well as looking at the IGETC requirements. Can anyone who did one-year transfer help me out, I’m really stressing about this especially because my parents do not believe this is possible. Thank you!!!

it’s definitely possible if you have AP credits. Tough, but it’s possible. While i understand the urgency you’re feeling rn after the disappointment in your admission results, I wouldn’t recommend rushing thru the process. If it takes two years, it takes two years. For the science/engineering majors, it’s gonna be extremely tough to transfer in one year. In fact, there are so many prereqs now for those majors most students are having to spend 3 years in CC, some even more. Anyways, go to the CC you plan on enrolling into and check to see what AP credits transfer and what doesn’t. A counselor should go through a plan with you and give you an estimate of when you can get out of there, and how.

Thank you! I will take that into consideration, but my friend has actually been able to get into UCLA doing a one-year transfer w/o TAG. I’m just more confused on the idea of which classes I need to take in order to satisfy the requirements of IGETC and 90 quarter credits.

If you have the AP credits as Eric said and your major isn’t crazy-intensive, it’s quite doable. The key is to take a couple of courses this summer to get some college courses under your belt. IGETC (GE) is often a good choice for summer. Go to assist.org, plug in a CCC, UC and major and start seeing what you need for your major.

You need to register now at a CCC (you can do it online) and get the placement tests done for math and English. Then you can enroll in summer courses. Summer reg will be opening soon. Also find out from an advisor what GE path you should take if you’re not sure. Unless it’s a STEM major, it’s usually IGETC. Some of your AP should fulfill those courses.

Google your college and IGETC (example “De Anza IGETC”). A form from the school will show up with the courses that fulfill each area, and the rules.
