Does anyone know if you can change majors as a transfer student from a CCC to a UC? I'm talking about once you get accepted and you begin to enroll. Also, compared to those accepted as freshmen, how hard will it be to petition for a change of major as a transfer? I would think it would be especially limited for transfer students simply because of major preparation prior to the transfer, and the first personal statement regarding your intended major, but I could be wrong.

A couple fellow UC transfer applicants have been asking about this about the following schools: UCB, LA, SD, and Riverside. Actually throw in UCI in there too for my own curiousity. I have found information for UCI and SD, but UCI's is outdated and SD's is only for freshman applicants. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

thanks ccct... do you know of any literature or website links I can show my friends for more details? Also, here is what I found recently from the ucop website, which is also outdated (Spring 2003)

Do I have to declare a major before transferring? Can I change my major after I transfer?

For the UC system you will need to declare a major. Each campus has its own policy regarding changing majors so you will need to check with a university representative. For impacted programs, most campuses will not let you switch to the impacted program after transferring.

For the CSU system you may transfer without declaring a major. To be admitted to impacted programs, however, you must apply to the program. The CSU system strongly encourages students to declare a major by the time they have 75 (semester) units earned.

You can change a major after the first quarter, as that guide said. I might end up doing that (from political science to economics). It's as simple as it is for students who started at the university.

Thanks everyone. I've actually finally found dated information from UCI, but it was through Yahoo. Maybe I was just not looking hard enough. Anyway, it just basically says yes you can, except for certain high-unit majors in which all the preps must be finished (such as chem, bio [wow, from pol sci?], etc.) Thanks for the information though everyone.
