UC transfer question...

Could you help me to understand California colleges!

Is this the rank of priority?
1. CC
2. CAL state/UC
3. NON-UC (example USC)
4. OUT-STATE

If I chose to go to USC, will it be easier to transfer to Stanford because it is a California college?

bumpppppppppppppy

Are you talking about completing a bachelor’s at USC and attending graduate school at Stanford, or transferring as a junior into a bachelor’s degree program?

Transferring as a junior into a bachelor’s degree program

This would be pretty difficult, as Stanford accepts about 1-2% of transfer students, their spot being dependent on how many Freshmen and Sophomores drop out/turn down acceptance.

[Transfer Requirements & Process : Stanford University](http://www.stanford.edu/dept/uga/application/transfer/index.html)

Cal States and UCs show preference to California CCs, but it isn’t necessarily a guarantee unless you take advntage of some sort of Transfer Alliance Program (which still isn’t always a guarantee). Since they’re all part of the California Higher Education system, there are more distinct agreements.

Stanford, on the other hand, isn’t obligated to show preference to CCs, and probably doesn’t.

I think attending a four year university just to complete lower divisions would look worse. (It’s also pretty expensive.)

So to answer your question, the list you gave is probably pretty accurate if you’re talking about transferring to a Cal State/UC, but for Stanford I’d say chances for those four choices are equally the same and would depend on your academic performance.

Actually it’s been seen that a large majority of Stanford transfers do originate from cc’s/jc’s. Someone around these message boards that got accepted as a transfer last year said something like out of the 20 people that were admitted as transfers over half were from cc’s or jc’s. Here is even a recent discussion of this issue: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/638328-transfer-ivy-ivy.html</a></p>
