UC Transfer TAU Gen Education Requirement

In my Transfer Academic Update for transferring to UC, there are two boxes under the title “Minimum Requirements” that ask:
“Prior to transfer, will you be certified for completion of the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC)?”
and
“Did you complete the UC general education requirements?”

I have not completed IGETC nor do I think I have fully completed all of the UC general ed requirements, because my major has recommended that I do not complete it and instead work on my major required courses. I am under the impression that you do not need to complete IGETC/gen ed requirements in order to transfer? Will this affect my chances of acceptance/disqualify me? The title is “minimum requirements” so it’s gotten me a little worried. Thank you!

My daughter is in the same situation. For her major (Ecology and Evolutionary Biology) it is recommended to NOT focus on completing IGETC and to get her lower division major classes done. She triple checked on each UC’s departmental website, and also used ASSIST. She was told by an advisor that she doesn’t need to complete IGETC or her gen ed courses in order to transfer. Double check the website of the school(s) you are interested in.
