I applied to UCLA, UCB, UCI, and UCSD. I applied with a 3.5 at a bio major. After i updated my grades for the fall quarter in feb I had a 3.67. After the winter quarter I have a 3.74 (3.78 science). What are my chances of getting in? Also is there anyway I can inform them of that my grades have impoved do to the winter quarter? Thanks.

Sry jgeng03 they only take the GPA yuou have at the time of your App and make sure you have under 80 units for CAL and no more than 90 units for other UCs

mike, why is Cal more stringent with the units?

IMO i think they don't want senior transfers

if only you were here earlier when your knowledge could've help mexbruin at this thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=52903
No one on this forum knew about the maximum units accepted and none of my counselors knew either.
I guess they assume that people transfer as soon as they are eligible (60 units) and don't bother to warn others who switch majors etc.
It's really unfair IMO.

mike168 I think you are wrong let me show you why:

Q: If my total number of UC transferable units is over 80, am I eligible for admission?
A: Probably not. Unfortunately, most applicants with excess units are denied admission. Exception: If all of your coursework has been or will be completed at one or more California community colleges, you are eligible for admission and the maximum transfer credit you can receive is 70 semester (105 quarter) units.

what I meant to say that they will transfer 70 but give you subject credit for the rest....but the limit still is 90 as more than 90 and you are given senior standing

I think as long as you have less than 90 you are fine

Fei the UCs will only allow you to transfer with 90+ units only if those units were completed at one or more California community colleges. It is best to just complete IGETC and major prep work. Those that have over 90+ units are people that change thier major mid-way so it is best to pick a major your freshmen year and just stick to it and change majors once you transfer.

Tifania. Yeah i didn't found out about the 80 units cap until winter intermission when i was snoopying around the CAL website. I just barely meet the cap @ 79 units, but if i wasn't playing around the website i would be @ 82. Unfortunately, i just foud out about this forum recently.

mike168 were the units you completed just at a california community college? If yes then why was it a problem?

jgeng03, even i wish I could let UC know about the GPA raise (3.81 to 3.92) after fall...unfortunately you cannot :(
I hope this will not be "costly" for both of us...

Fei, it was a problem because the CAL policy (80 units) was ambiguous. First they say you are "probably not" going to be eligible for admission with over 80 units. Then they say there'll be an exception if the units are "completed at one or more California community colleges". Why would it matter where you completed the units? You are still over 80 aren't you? Therefore you are not eligible because you are over 80 units regardless whether you have completed or will complete your course work at one or two CC. So to be safe, under CAL's policy, i kept my units under 80.

because UCs give preference to CCC students maybe? btw have you talked to a cal admission person yet?

As CCC students we do have priority over freshmen, but whether we are eligible under each UC campus's own admission policies is another question and no i haven't seen a CAL rep.

i think the word EXCEPTION means excluding...

wow! i just counted my transferable units and have exactly 80...so no more concern..=)

also adding to fei's comment...go to this link and read page 4 on the top right hand section...

...EXCEPTION: If all course work was completed at a two-year college, THIS POLICY DOESN'T APPLY!!!

Wow!!! I don't know how i misinterpreted that, but i did and my apologizes.

hahaha....no need to apologizes mike168, we're all in the nerve recking period right now....just relax and wait just two more weeks...=)

haha yea this transfer thing is crazy....
