Do Uc's look down on people if they start Trigonometry in Community College. I took the math assesment test cold and scored into Trig. , my gpa is high enough in Math that if I talk to them they will let me go into Pre-cal. Should I try to skip Trig., would it improve my chances at the UC's? Stupid question but what Math classes did you guys start your freshman year? Am I way behind if I want to transfer into one of the top UC's?

mine was Calc II because I skipped Calc I with AP...if you are engineering/science starting with trig means that you will most probably stay for 3 years...for other majors I think it's irrelevant what math you start out with

From what I know it has no bearance whatsoever, I started off at remedial algebra and ended up getting into ucla,ucb,ucsd....

i started off with taking intermediate algebra since i completed my senior year with geometry... got into UCLA Biz/Econ :)

oh yeah I got A's from intermed alg all the way up to calc 2 except for precalc where I got a B.

mine was math 1A yes. 8TH GRADE MATH LOL.

After being out of HS for 2 years, I placed into Intermediate Algebra even though I took Algebra 1 as a freshman in HS. If you plan to major in engineering, I recommend that you enroll into precalc and just self study trig at home if possible. Find out what materials are covered in you precalc class. I got burnt at my CCC (quarter system): Precalc 1 was a near rehash of Intermediate Algebra and Precalc 2 was a near rehash of Trig.

I was held back a year in CCC because of these remedial math courses. I should have self studied and retaken the placement exam since I self studied in most of my classes anyways. I'm in the end of my 3rd year now and am taking my last math final next week for Linear Algebra. Got all A's in math so far except for Calc 1D.

As long as you have a high gpa and finished most of your major prereq by the time you transfer, I don't think it will matter which math class you started with. I got accepted to all the UCs I applied to for EE major: UCLA, UCB, UCSB, UCSD.
