Uc visual arts requirement?

Hi, so I'm a junior and today I just found out that UC schools have an a-g list of requirements. I'm concerned about part "f"

Are these absolutely mandatory?
I can post my entire high school schedule if you'd like but I'm currently taking 2 sciences (we get 6 classes, and I have 4 core classes and a foreign language + another science as my electives)
With my free elective, I've taken required gym classes (including a semester of dance) and Alaska studies (also required).

Next year, I want to take a college class (Russian 301) but will have to have 2 free periods in order to do that. I was going to take AP stats (online), AP calc BC, AP lit, AP gov/Econ or IB HOA2, and AP physics.
I really don't want to give up the college class in order to take an art class :-(

Thank you so much!

Yes, one year of visual/performing arts is required. Here is some information http://www.ucop.edu/agguide/a-g-requirements/f-visual-performing-arts/index.html

Can you take part two of the DANCE class somehow? or take an additional arts-dance-music-theater college class.

No I can’t take part 2 :frowning: it’s just “introductory dance” offered sem 1 and sem 2

This really sucks; I guess I’ll try to figure it out this summer… Thanks MLM and liveonboca

I was in the exact same situation a few months ago when I was filling out my application. I hadn’t met the visual arts requirement (please, I met my school’s art requirement through a computer aided design class, which was for a semester and I don’t think the UCs would count it). When I called and asked them about it, they said “It is not necessary, but it hurts your application some” I still applied, and of the 2 campuses I applied too, I got into one campus and waitlisted at the other.

Take a summer class that meet s the requirement.

Do AP Art History.

Score of 3, 4 or 5 on the AP History of Art, Studio Art or Music Theory Exam
