So I just got waitlisted for UCI. How does the waitlist work? And are they going to accept less people off the waitlist this year compared to last year or the other way around?
Thanks

It really depends on what UCI’s actual yield vs expected yield, come May 1st. Like most schools, they accept way more students than they expect to enroll. If UCI is your first choice, you should certainly accept the wait list offer and hope for the best. Just make sure you accept an offer of admission from another university, just so you’re ensured to be somewhere this Fall. If UCI or another school that you are waitlisted on eventually accepts you off their wait lit, you’ll have to rescind the SIR at the other school and likely lose your deposit.
Here is some good data on UC waitlist numbers and success of appeals. http://â– â– â– â– â– â– â– â– â– â– â– â– /home/fall-2014-last-year-frosh-waitlist-appeal-cancellation-numbers/
UCI’s numbers are pretty good for waitlist offers. One thing to be aware of is that there is a political fight right now in the California Legislature/Governor’s office over UC admissions. Across the board they are capping admissions despite receiving even more applications this year. I would give the waitlist a chance but as the poster above advised, accept someplace else. Good luck.
Anybody know if it’s possible to get more than one acceptance from being on multiple UC waitlists? Does that ever happen?
