UC Winter Transfers

hey sixshot1,

Nope, i would be happy to go to SB this winter. Even though i would have a better chance to go to Irvine, which is one of my others UC that i really want to go.

By the way, the decisison is still pending…I apply as a business economics major, it’s taking forever…

yeah well they said before november first so that’s 6 days away

eh so i didn’t get in, kind of takes the life out of you for a sec, i’m thinking about
appealing, they said they would guaranteed me next fall admissions if i maintain certain requirements and take certain majors courses, and i would have to apply for fall in the month of november, but not sure if i would have to do the application all over again and my personal statement. They said the it was an unusual demand for winter spots, wonder if they say that every year. Anyone else who didn’t get in get the fall guaranteed offer? there goes all the work i put in at summer school while also doing the personal statement and application. There was a ucsb rep at my school today but i didn’t go cause i didn’t know if i got in yet or about the fall guaranteed thing

im sorry Ddawg, reading your post took the life out of ME for a second, but ya, honestly if you dont want to go to UCR, then dont. You will have to wait a few months longer to start your classes but atleast you can better prepare yourself for UCSB and reap the benefits of starting Fall Quarter.

thanks sixshot, logging on to see the status as decision pending was starting to look good. Instead i see not admitted, not even for the second major. Yah the last month of summer was kind of hetic, i had essays and research papers to write along with writing and revising my personal statement over and over. And all of this and the application was due like on the same day as the final i had for that class. I missed the last 7 questions on the test that were true and false, it was 50 multiple choice and i everyone else but me answered all 50, i don’t remember seeing the last 7 questions, either they were on the back or i somehow blanked out, i think that dropped me a letter grade. Yeah i took 10 weeks of summer school and 6 units, and 15 this semester to get to 60 for winter transfer. Got into UCR AND UCSC but UCSC is far and i don’t really want to go to ucr and they don’t have my major. Well if i finish all my classes this semester then i’ll have 60 to transfer and they wouldn’t be anything else to take since you have to take the pre req for the major over there, i guess i would just take a pe class to get my AA and wait another 9 months, my social life needs a boost

^^ hey dragondawg sorry to hear that, but there always next time, If i don’t make it to sb either i’m going for the fall semester…I still don’t knwo the decison but i’m can tell it’s not good…

thanks, even though the ucsb rep said signing the SIR for another school didn’t have any effect on the decision, i wondered if it did, so i emailed the admissions to see, I guess i would have to fill out the application again and hopefully use the same personal statement, but anyways sixshot let me know how it goes in sb when you get there in the winter, hopefully its good as everyone says it is. I read that admissions has to address their own needs for a diverse population or for strength on sports teams or in specific degree programs. And that each application has gone through extensive reviews. For appeal they said you need to show that you got better grades than on the application or that an extenuating cirsumstance has occured. Hmmm does having appendicitises and missing a test count? my for econ class last semeter there were like 3 test, 20 questions each and a final that is 40 questions, you can either drop te lowest test or half the final, unfortunately, i had my appendectomy that week and could not attend school so i had to miss the test and drop that one, but i rather would have chosen to drop the final since all the tests are hard and i need a good grade on the final to pass the class so i had to like get most of the 40 right, they probably wouldn’t care about that

^ if you really want have a second try at ucsb then try to appeal, we just have to write a letter and add some information of the reason to appeal, if you can think of anything, i say try it, you never know, i read in this forum that ppl have try to appeal and some ppl got in via appealing. if not, there always fall! don’t get your hope down.

i think the deadline for the appeal is november 15, i think i should write about how some circumstances in life and interfered with my school work and that i really need to go, and maybe that i’ve been dreaming of going there for a while, but does circumstances like depression, dsythmia, lack of friends count? and my emergency surgery causing me to miss a test that was later dropped but had to take the double final

so what are the advantages of starting in the fall

well for one, you receive more financial aid as a fall admit, especially if you meet the march 2 deadline. socially, entering as a fall admit is also beneficial. Instead of dorming with a bunch of people who already know each other, you will dorm with a bunch of strangers who are just as eager to meet people as yourself. Fall semester is also the time when most frats have their rush so thats cool if you plan on going greek. Counselors also say that fall admits transition into UC students much easier than admits of other quarters because the fall semester has all the cool ā€œWELCOME TO OUT SCHOOLā€ events. Anywho thats all i can think of off the top of my head but there are much more

hey ddogg do you have AIM or anything like that?

^ well and housing advantage, you are guarantee compare to the winter/spring.

^ and applying for fall you have more of a greater chance if you take this year to up your GPA. and some uc wasn’t even open during winter session

hey sixshot it would be nice if you can update us how you are doing when you go to SB!

indeed i will, ill show you guys around when you guys transfer there too =D

yeah housing is guarunteed for transfers next fall, but i hope their not talking about the crappy place like fountain beau and tropicana i think is what their called. I contacted admissions and asked if i could take the semester off assuming i completed the 60 transferable units and they said technically i could but they wouldn’t recommend it and said that i could take up to 10 units according to my records, but since my major is comm and all you need to transfer is stats 1 and take the rest of the pre req at sb, so if i go next year other people that i graduated high school with would be starting their senior year with their upper division and i would still be taking a pre major class, not cool

ok well ucsb admissions just said that usually they get around 600 applications for winter but this time they got 1000, what a year to pick to transfer during winter, hope there is a waiting list, not sure about appeals but i think by the time they get back to you you’ll already miss orientation and miss some other deadlines, why did so many people have to apply. They said this year they admitted to enroll few than 280 spots, sixshot how did you crack that top 28 percent?

Sorry to hear about you not getting in dragondawg. Hopefully things work out in the end.

Has everyone heard back from UCI? My app is still pending. Are there any other UC to UC transfers who have applied to UCI and not heard back yet?

i guess UCI got a lot of applicants too, i’m still trying to come up with my appeal letter but everything so far that i thought of, not sure if its relevant
