With acceptances coming this weekend I'm hoping to get some more info on the UCs to make my decision please!

UC Berkeley and UCLA stand out, as generally speaking, campuses in big cities in CA tend to be liberal and very LGBT friendly. I have observed every UC that I visited (LA, B, Davis, SB, SD) to be VERY LGBT friendly! I would let fit guide your choice rather than LGBT community for the most part since it is so strong is most of CA and certainly among the college demographic. That said, as a LGBT student, I felt exceptionally welcomed and supported at UC Berkeley events.

Best of luck!

I’m not sure about other UCs, but I saw that San Diego has LGBT housing options which is awesome. It’s something you should look into with the others ones. I feel like it’d be more comfortable living around people with a similar lifestyle even if I get a single. Of course, that all depends on if you’re going to be living on campus.
Anyway, Berkeley has a very large and active LGBT community on top of it being the best UC.

The Berkeley Student Cooperative houses have an LGBTQ theme house:

If you are applying to UCB, you may want to apply to the BSC anyway to keep your housing options open. Even if you do not want to live in the BSC frosh year, you can change your application to a later year. Priority for new members in the BSC is based on first application date. The BSC’s room and board costs are a few thousand dollars lower than the UCB off-campus student budget, which can be helpful since you mentioned needing a lot of financial aid.

The UCB campus dorms also have a theme section that you may be interested in:
