Believe me, the kids I know at Oxbridge can work hard and play hard with the best of them!
@londondad I think you know what I mean.
Yes, I do. The point I was trying to make is if someone is looking for a “truly English” university experience (whatever that means, but let’s say something like “Brideshead Revisited”), than Oxford, Cambridge or Durham would be the best choice although that 1920’s experience doesn’t really exist anymore, there is still a lot of tradition at those places. For someone who doesn’t care about that and is just coming for the academic experience (and the lower cost advantage) there are a wide number of Russell Group unis that would meet those objectives.
Agreed.
DS received his first offer this morning Unconditional from the University of Edinburgh for History and Politics. The first acceptance and he is elated.
Congrats @christygb ! Edinburgh is awesome.
@jupiter98 Thank you! He’s thrilled and will wait and see if other offers come his way. It’s a top choice for sure! We loved Edinburgh and the university when we visited this past summer. We’re also planning another visit over Spring break for him to visit campus’ once more.
Edi was my dd’s first acceptance in the UK and top choice as well. She is very happy there
I just got into Durham conditionally! I’m only waiting to hear back from one school now
Received and unconditional from King’s for history and IR this morning! Still waiting on Durham, Bristol, and Warwick
Received conditional offer (IB) for War Studies and War Studies and History.
@cami2017 @saskey12 and @dataengineer Congratulations!
@dataengineer what university?
Still just waiting on Bath here
@VickiSoCal King’s College London
More good news today. DS got an unconditional offer from Kings College London (History and IR) and a conditional (sending proof of SAT/subject scores) from Manchester (History). He and my DH are planning a trip over Spring break to visit his top choices while school is in session. Interesting, though, the offers arrived in the late morning (Pacific time) which would have been quite late at night in the UK. We are still awaiting Durham and St. Andrews.
I think the UCAS website updates late evening over there. All four track offers have come in around 10 or 11 Pacific.
Received another offer for War Studies and Philosophy at King’s college today
DS heard from Durham University this morning and was given an unconditional offer for History. Very excited!
@christygb what’s he leaning towards? We loved our visit to Durham.
@VickiSoCal so far he is leaning towards Edinburgh, however, he has not visited Durham yet and will be heading there over Spring break to take a tour and speak with people. He will visit all the schools where he was accepted, and then will be ready to make a decision. How is your daughter doing with her decision. Did she hear from Bath?
