UCB Appeals Thread

Hi,

I haven't found much info on people who are appealing as a transfer. So I thought I might start one.

Anyone else appealing besides me? I know you are out there. =o)

Please post what major you are going for, and your grounds for appeal if you feel you are comfortable with sharing, and maybe some academic stats.

As for me, I'm trying to get into Business Administration in Haas.

wow haas....good luck

Well, considering they accepted like 10 of 500, i don't think there's going to be a lot of people appealing.

"10 of 500"

Where did you get those numbers??

http://students.berkeley.edu/files/Admissions/Transfer_06.pdf

It's more like 8 out of 100.

That is what I thought

Where on that pdf file does it say 8 out of 100? Not that I don't believe you, but I couldn't find anything about the appeals process on there.

8% admittance to Haas = 8 out of 100

^^ that's not appeals though...thas jus regular...for appeals it's probably harder

Correct (10 chars)

are you gonna provide letter of recommendations? or just ask for re-consideration?

when did most of the decisions come out last year?

Be sure you have the "compelling new information" they're looking for. It was a long-shot to begin with and it's an even longer one now. I think Haas reviews their own applications--Sproul Hall has no part in it which may work against you as they're really competitive up there. I'm waitlisted to take their org behavior class next semester and I'm FAR down the list. THey have limited space for a lot of interested people.

If you don't get in, just get good undergrad grades wherever you go then come back to Haas for your MBA in a few years. That'd be more impressive than the undergrad biz degree from Haas.

Is there a website that clearly documents the UCB process, aside from that paragraph on the faq page?

i called them last week, but they weren't that helpful.

the conversation went something like this.

Me: Hi, I had a questions about the appeals process.
Her: What is your question?
Me: What documents do I need to submit along with my appeals letter?
Her: Anything you think will help your case.
Me: What about letters of recommendation.
Her: Anything you think will help your case.
Me: Ok, great, i guess that's all the questions i have. Thanks!

^ in that case, I'm sure a blank check would suffice

Okay, I called UCB again today. And here's the info I got:

(1) UCB only cites that one paragraph in the faq section for appeals -- there is no other documented information. After I asked, "Is there anymore information you could provide? The faq section only lists a short, vague paragraph?" The lady said UCB does this to show that it's a process that they do not encourage.

(2) Apparently, it's easier to get into Haas than to get a decision reversed. She said last year, "3% of decisions were reversed." So apparently, I was wrong. Rather than 8 of 500, it's more like 15 of 500. lol.

Hope that helps.
