UCB Area Safety.

Roflroflrofl

Emeryville is OK, but I would highly recommend taking the Emeryville shuttle (it is free) to and from the MacArthur BART station. It is a sketchy area around that station.

Unless or until you get to know the East Bay, find a place to live closer to campus. Berkeley is fine, Albany is fine, Rockridge close to the BART station is fine...all of those should be relatively safe areas. (But not guaranteed...)

"**But on the way back two kindly neighbors reminded me how wonderful the place was.

"Dude, you don't belong here... Where're you from?... If you don't want to get shot, take a taxi and don't ever come back!... Someone got shot to death on this street 2 days ago... etc.. etc.."**

They were not neighbors, they were after the same apartment and laughed their asses off when the taxi came

for those of you who are not from the bay:
cities to stay away from:
Richmond, Oakland
cities that are fine:
North Berkeley, Albany
cities that you need to be careful about depending on which part:
El Cerrito (the part that boarders Richmond)
Emeryville (the parts that boarders Oakland and South Berkeley)
Parts of West and South Berkeley

If you are close to the campus/shattuck or berkeley, north berkeley and rockridge bart stations - I would say you're safe. MacArthur really isn't the best station to live near. I'm from the east bay and would prefer not to live around there for my own safety. It's manageable - but not preferable.

The surrounding areas of UCB can be pretty bad but have you guys ever checked out the area around USC? Now that is truly ghetto.

University of
South
Compton

lulz.

USC is South Central hooded out ferreal
but that anchor guy
i heard he holds it down for those heavy boatloads
that's HARD!

I am not going to Cal so I don't have to worry about it. I wish no one here gets any random shot. Good luck

lol this thread +1

You can make your own Berkeley Crime Map at this website.

http://209.232.44.42/cvc/wizard.asp

Choose which cross streets you want it centered on, and what radius area you are interested in, and you will get a detailed map of all incidents for your chosen time frame, up to 6 months.

It's fairly safe.. you should be fine

Russkiy_Bear you're from the area, right? Can you give us a summary?
