UCB - can I apply this way?

I'm thinking of UCB as an option - and posted a thread on the UCB forum. Now I'm posting a question directly concerning transfer admission here.

First, I am curious why people don't apply to UCB/UCLA directly but instead go for the trouble of transfer admission.

Second, I am thinking of applying to UCB as a freshman in the upcoming admission cycle. However, this coming year (September) I'll likely be going to a CCC near San Diego.
My question is, will I be able to transfer the work done at this CCC after (if possible) I gain admission as a freshman candidate? Additionally, I'll have 10 AP credits with me if I get admitted. Can I add the CCC course credits and the AP credits together to be transferred to UCB?

Thanks.

Wait… You mean I could have applied right out of high school??

Well…I’ve been out of high school for some time
but why not apply directly out of high school but do a year of community college then transfer the credits over? Is there any rule saying this can’t be done?

I believe you can. However, you’d have to explain why you were out of high school for a year and didnt go to CC–and you would need a dang good reason.

From the Cal Admissions website:

If you take any college courses at the CCC, you will not be eligible to apply as freshman admissions, and will need to apply as a transfer.

I know what you mean purplecorn

but what I mean is that I file the application to Berkeley before I enroll in a CCC -

Will that work?
