I applied to Berkeley only because it is the only school I want to go to; of course now I am beginning to panic that I won't get in.

Intended Major: Society and Environment
CC GPA: 3.9
IGETC: Complete
Major requirements: Complete
UCB TAP member
Ten years total employment experience; employed in supervisory management for almost 5 years now for a large company --- position includes extensive leadership responsibilities
I also participate in concurrent enrollment at UCB

I do a ton of volunteer work as well which I stupidly didn't include on my application. I had lots of ECs in high school (band, drum major, theatre, plus employment) which I also didn't include because I didn't know if transfer students should include that.

ETA: I had very interesting circumstances surrounding my return to college, so if you ask me my essays were top notch . . . the people who read them were also impressed, but, you know . . . you never know.
Anyway, can some of you wise folks shed some light on my chances? Thanks!!!

dude, not only do you have a high gpa in an un-impacted major, but you also have tap. that is the closest thing to a guarantee for ucb. only like a handful of students get tap for cal. relax. your in

Let us just hope he picked a safety. I have a friend who only applied to Cal. If he does not get in, it is his own fault. It would suck to stay another year at CC; I think he’ll get in though.

I doubt you’re getting in. That major has become very popular this year. I’d be worried about that essay too, it may not strike a chord with the adcoms.

^^^ Agreed mikei. I’d add though that they almost always come from broken homes where they pulled off that 4.5 gpa while providing for 17 siblings as well as having experience in either the Peace Corps, the military, or both at once.

How did your TAP advisor let you only apply to ONE school…? Plus, during the TAP meetings, the advisors there specifically told all TAP students to apply for backups. I think that comes off as very cocky.

But it shouldn’t matter much, it’s a non-impacted major and it’s pretty easy to get into since no one applies to it.

Hey I’m in Berk’s Tap as well. I am just wondering is the acceptance rate in this program really like 90%+ or is that a myth? My advisor says there isn’t any priority but maybe she’s lying!

You don’t get priority, your app is just more beefed up than the rest. You’re also allowed to do research in the summer @ Cal and take classes concurrently- they’ll pay for books! I think you also get a rec letter for appeal in case you get rejected. My app would have been miserable without TAP helping me. You get into TAP via invitation then applying and acceptance.
