Hey, UCB is my dream school and I’m not sure if my stats are enough to get me in. I have a 4.18 UC GPA, a 33 on the ACT, and have played baseball (for 10 years//30 hours a week) on a regional team/have played internationally. Also, helped create a website, and have been coaching kids in baseball for about 4 years. I don’t have a ton of ECs but have put a lot of time, commitment, and have been recognized for my play in baseball.
Is this a competitive application since students who apply to Berkeley have 4.3 GPAs etc.
Intended major? Chance of being recruited for Baseball? UC GPA of 4.18 capped weighted or Fully weighted? In-state?
2018 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 capped weighted and not major specific:
UCB: 10%
2019 UC capped weighted GPA averages:
UCB: 4.23
25th - 75th percentiles for ACT composite + language arts
UCB: 28-35
You can be competitive since UCB tends to be more holistic than many other UC’s and your EC’s and essays could make a difference. I caution you to get rid of the “dream school” mentality since this can lead to disappointment. Apply widely and your dream school or schools will be the colleges that want you.
Best of luck.
Also, your major may play a part as well. Rigor of your classes (how many APs) plays a role as well.
Thanks guys,
I’m applying for Applied Mathematics. Let me know if that would make a difference.
Yes, I’m in-state and my GPA is fully weighted.
Between 10-11, I took 7 UC Honors Courses (5 Aps, 1 CC course, 1 UC-approved honors course which equaled to 13 semesters), and in 12th I’m planning on taking 5-6 AP classes.
I’m mostly banking on my essays to put me over the top because people with stellar grades apply to highly competitive schools like Berkeley or LA.
So what is your capped weighted for comparison purposes to the statistical data I posted? College of L&S does not admit by major (Applied Mathematics) and the admit rate for the College was 17% in 2018. 2019 data not yet available.
Capped weighted is about 3.97
If your capped weighted UC GPA is 3.97, then you know where you stand with UCB which would be a Reach school.
