UCB Financial Aid

I'm assuming there's gonna be more people like me out there, so might as well start a thread about it.

I posted in another UCB thread about my financial aid, and how the home page says that we won't be able to access our financial aid until May 5th.

When I click on awards summary it gives me this,

AWARDS AMOUNT
CAL BEARS SCHOLARSHIP 8168.00
FED SEOG GRANT FALL 250.00
FED SEOG GRANT SPRING 250.00
FED.DIR.LOAN-SUB/FL1 1165.00
FED.DIR.LOAN-SUB/SP1 1165.00
FEDERAL PELL GRANT-FALL 2025.00
FEDERAL PELL GRANT-SPRG 2025.00
PARENT GRANT - FALL 3000.00
PARENT GRANT - SPRING 3000.00
Total 21048.00

Is this legit? Or are there gonna be certain requirements I have to do? The financial aid site is incredibly cryptic, and money will basically decide if I go to LA or Berk. Please help!

I have the same numbers

same here but the number thats accepted is half of it, its 11k or something, i hope its true, half of my tuition is paid

so does that mean it's just how much we can get?

bump bump...

I'm gonna look at how much money I'm going to get from the aid... cuz, money would mean a lot to me... digitalash... same here, I will use how much "help" i get to determine where I go...

How much do we pay for the dorm?? Is it free for the first year???

I received almost $14,000 for the CAL BEARS SCHOLARSHIP..sorry, had to brag a little..don't hate me :)

$1,000 in grants and $20,000 in loans. That's a generous offer.

Ok guys, you are showing up some numbers, but does anyone know how much in cash you get, and how much should one pay for the dorm, and tuition?? In my CC I did not pay anything, plus I had $2200 financial aid for each semester.

<a href="http://registrar.berkeley.edu/Registration/feesched.html%5B/url%5D">http://registrar.berkeley.edu/Registration/feesched.html</a>
$3,716.95 per semester.

<a href="http://housing.berkeley.edu/livingatcal/rates0506.html%5B/url%5D">http://housing.berkeley.edu/livingatcal/rates0506.html</a>
Room and board (dorms) are around $9,000 to $13,000 per academic year.

Thanks for the links,
Matt30, let me ask you this, let's say you rent something on your own. Can you demand your financial aid in cash?? let's say I have around 20000 for 2006-2007 school year from UCB, can I cash it??

I think UCB has a system where you can instruct them to make regular payments to 'approved' landlords.

I'm really not quite sure. I know UCSD had a similar arrangement.

anyone have any links for that, it would be nice

it says they are still missing my parents income verfication.. anyone in the same situation?

i got missing citizenship information and college verification information, but it says that i need to submit these forms in person!!

I missed the FAFSA May deadline and neglected to turn it in late because I didn't think I'd get anything. However from what I've seen here on CC it seems like tons of people are getting money. Are you guys middle class or what?

They're asking me for some verification form. I have no idea what to do. I don't want to drive all the way up to berk to figure it out.

in person? They told me i could send mine in.. I am not getting any free money and my parents make less than $100,000 a year

does anyone know what the verification form is anyway? it is to make sure im over 18 or something? i havent checked yet.

they told me that they randomly select fafsa applicants and verfiy the info we reported on fafsa...now im asked to attach my parent's W2 and 1099...GRR
