****UCB Freshman Class of 2024 Appeal Thread****

Well, I don’t

Whats the 4 address glitch

@Redliter @krispey please don’t worry about it. It is basically some conspiracy theory that has been discussed ad nauseum regarding changes in your MAP portal that may or may not occur. If you look in your MAP portal, you should see that you have 2 mailing addresses. Some people report that there is a glitch where the 2 addresses turn into 4 addresses. There was then speculation about “Oh, look I have 4 addresses! There’s a glitch in portal! I’m gonna get in!” “Dang it! I still only have 2 addresses. RIP me!”

After the waves of waitlist admissions happened, there was never any correlation shown between this glitch and a decision on your admission. Yet people still like to discuss it as if their entire future depends on it.

Do we think decisions might come out today?

No. Appeal acceptances will be released most likely on monday or tuesday unless there is actually a 3rd wave of wait list acceptances. If there is a 3rd wave we most likely will have to wait until very late May.

Any guesses as to what UCB appeal acceptance rate might be like this year? Ik last year was about 3%, don’t know about previous years.

^

its supposed to release before june 1 right? the appeal decision?

That’s true

Anyone from the appeal thread wants to show your stats?
Mine is SAT 1430
SAT Math level2 800 Chem 720
No AP GPA 4.0 uw
International student
Fair but wide and meaningful extracurricular activities
Strong essays with clear character demonstration

hey, to everyone who’s appealed and has maybe monitored the waitlist thread, are any of you seeing an FAQ glitch on your portals? it should say admissions FAQ for accepted students or something along those lines. asking since many tend to say us appeals receive a decision right after waitlists and some waitlist people are seeing a glitch that is indicative of their acceptance already

I got in to UCSB today off appeal! Maybe that means Berkeley is coming soon?

@atharmony I was wondering the same thing. But here’s a question: A denied student would have a decision FAQ. Aren’t the people on the waitlist board talking about a different waitlist FAQ giving way to an admission FAQ?

For appeal students then will the decision FAQ link lead to the admissions FAQ if there were a glitch?

@gabriellean Congrats. May I ask what was the basis of your UCSB appeal and was it the same as your UCB appeal.

I have looked back on every appeal thread for Berkeley in the last 5 years and have never seen one person talk about an FAQ glitch. The only glitch I have seen appealers have is the address glitch, which everyone seems to get at some point (There is also no proven correlation between address glitches and acceptance).

@Camlian Thanks! I wrote about why my gpa fell in sophomore year (I moved from Jamaica after the start of the school year). Then explained how I outperformed that first semester sophomore year gpa but it still managed to pull my overall one down. Also talked about the national championship I won in Jamaica.

My appeal also worked for USC so we’ll see if it works for Berkeley. I had to make some changes since UCB limits the characters but it’s more or less the same essay

USC?? Nice, you’re already set then lol, even if Berkeley isn’t in your favor, but good luck.

Thanks! USC is my dream school so I’ll be ok if I don’t get into Cal. It would be nice to get the extra gratification though lol

@gabrillean Congrats on winning your appeal to so many schools. It first puzzled me as to why schools placed so many applicants on waitlist (enough to fill an entire class). Thought it was unfair bc it gave the kids false hope. But as I read through the various threads I can see why. It’s because the kids lack that commitment too. As a parent here’s a word of advice, if USC is your dream school, then enjoy that acceptance and use your time, energy and focus on getting prepared for it.

So the UCB waitlist thread is lighting up with lots of people getting the glitch. Looks like today is a wave for the waitlisters. Wonder if this means anything for the appeals?
