My friend who has significantly lower test scores, GPA, ECs, and rigor of classes was asked for a letter of recommendation. Is it a good or bad thing I was not asked?
Starting last year, Berkeley is offering some applicants the option to submit LOR’s. All of the kids at my D’s HS who applied were given the option, regardless of stats. D already them lined up for private school apps, so it wasn’t a big deal. She was admitted, but I don’t know if it was because of her LORs. Not everyone who did submit them got in.
Could be your friend is considered borderline and they need more info to make a decision. Or, it could be completely random. I would not take it as a negative sign that you did not get asked - it’s not like they offer it to every applicant, and they admit A LOT of kids, so no need to panic. Hang in there!
