I got accepted into Berkeley, into the computer science L&S B.A. but I was wondering what my classes will be like when I actually go to Berkeley. It says on my Conditions of Admission that I am not guaranteed my major, and that it will be decided based on the prerequisites I have taken. I am missing 1 math course according to Assist.org. Does this mean I will not get in my major? Will I have to take this in summer or when I get to Berkeley in the fall?

Also, my computer science classes do not transfer over to Berkeley(meaning I have to take the Berkeley versions). Is this going to set me back? Will I have to spend more than 2 years at berkeley?

Thank you in advance!

Your gonna get rescinded. You need all the assist.org pre reqs completed before you transfer and they dont allow you take them n the summer

? what kind of system would this be? Why did they accept me then? It’s not like I stated that I will be taking that math class or have taken it. They accepted me as I am. I just don’t see how they could accept me to deny me?

Lol you are accepted into a College, not a major but for L&S transfers, you have to declare a major before you start the Spring Semester. As long as you complete the pre-reqs before then, you will be fine. Additionally, I asked my admissions counselor if I could take Linear Alg at my CC this summer and she said that was fine.

Oh and source: [Office of Undergraduate Advising: Declaring a Major](http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/major/declare.html)

It’s actually really important to go through all of the Undergraduate Advising pages and make sure you’re aware of the information.

That simply means you will have to complete all pre-requisites before you can declare a major in Berkeley. If you fail to do so eventually, like failing a pre-requisite course that may not be allowed for certain majors, you might then need to find an alternative major to declare. That’s why they say you are not guaranteed for your major.

Which engineering program is the least impacted at Berkeley? Manufacturing, Industrial, or Materials?
What is the lowest GPA I can get to still be admitted? I’m really stressing out. Please help me!!
Will one W affect my admission for next year? The course I received a W in was Calculus 1 but I made it up and got an A.

For transferring to the Berkeley Computer Science major in the College of Letters and Science, you may want to review the following information:

[CS Transfer Prerequisites | EECS at UC Berkeley](http://www.eecs.berkeley.edu/csugrad/preparingtoapply.shtml)

Thank you everyone for your replies.

@ucbalumnus, thank you very much! that is a very helpful link!

So I guess basically what I have to do is take the math course during summer, and then take the other 3 that I need in the Fall.

How long does it take to graduate usually though? Does anyone know? Is 2 years after transfer uncommon?

You have to finish within 4 semesters (not counting Summer).

finish what? The prereqs? or getting the degree? Because on the link that ucbalumnus posted, under sample programs, some of the plans go on to say 2-3 more semesters to go after the 4th semester.

When you apply to Cal, you are admitted into a college, not a major. The College of Engineering is competitive in general but you won’t declare your major until you are accepted to Cal. Generally, it doesn’t matter which you apply to but I would suggest applying to the one in which you have ALL of the pre-reqs done (which will probably be the one you are most interested in).

There is no real way to determine the lowest GPA. Different people get accepted with different circumstances but I would strive for the highest GPA you can get but not at the expense of missing pre-reqs.

1W will probably not affect your admission and there’s a small place for you to explain any bad grades/semesters on your UC application.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. Generally, you are given 4 semesters to graduate after transferring but Engineering students have 5 semesters. It all depends on your major but I’m not sure where Comp Sci falls since it’s somewhat related to EECS but also not so related.

@killmyentourage: thank you so much!

I’m gonna go ahead and take the math class during summer. I called an advisor and she told me that it’d probably take me 5 semesters to finish. Not bad.
