Hey guys! I need help!
I am a high school senior right now.
I recently SIRed to UCLA, but just got off the waitlist for UC Berkeley!
Right now I am conflicted between these two colleges. I have visited both the campuses already, but not enough to get a quality opinion to choose.
I want a good balance between social and academic life. But I heard Cal has a more (or slightly more) competitive atmosphere, which might take away some of my social opportunities, and LA is a bit more social.
I want to choose a school that is overall better (or a bit better) in terms of opportunities, social life, academics, etc for a biomedical engineering major. I don’t have much time!!!
UCLA had a fine engineering school but Bio engineering is one of our newer (less established) departments. UCB is similarly new. Both will prep you well for the future. Slight edge to cal for academics and name. Slight edge to UCLA for school/life balance. The social life in college was very important to me so ucla was my hands down choice. I’m an EE btw
Did one feel more like home? If so, pick that one. They’re both very good and have more than adequate resources to provide a great education.
If your “gut reaction” didn’t confirm a preference, then weigh things like cost, academic fit (check available courses if necessary), social vibe, things to do on and off campus, weather, campus look/size/convenience, etc.
