UCB or UCLA

Hi everybody,

UCB= Cell & Developmental Bio
UCLA= Biology

Where should I go? I'm under time constraints, so I probably can't visit Cal at all. What are the dis/advantages?

Also, I was confused as to why Cal doesn't have a "Biology" major, but why it is "Cell & Development Bio?"

One more thing, what should I single/double-minor in?

Thanksone

you heard from cal already? lucky.....i haven't had the best luck with the uc's. i probably won't get it. congrats. i would go to berkeley

Berkeley. Major in Biology Double minor in -biochem and chem or biochem and any thing you want like french or spanish.

I think I know you wazzzup7up.
Go to SD!
And yeah, you've heard from Cal already?

They werent accepted to UCSD only UCLA and UCB

Lol, I know this kid from school and he was originally thinking about going to SD. And he was accepted to SD too.

Oh..that makes sense

There's been soooooooo many posts specifically comparing Berkeley and LA..and probably their science programs too. I would search the UCLA and Cal forum because everyone there can say a lot more than I know. I'm personally choosing by location.

I myself will face this dilemma (though with Econ rather than Bio) if I get into Cal tomorrow...

It's difficult to compare the two. Cal has the edge in academics, but I personally like the social atmosphere down at LA better. I might just end up choosing by location as chicgeek is.

It really depends on how much you value your major. NRC rankings show Cal at #12 in Cell/Developmental, and UCLA at #16. I'm not sure about Bio, but Cal is generally better than UCLA in the sciences.

Neo Yoyo, can you post a link for the nrc rankings you cited?

Edited to add: I'm in a similar boat. I would go for environmental factors/school fit because in terms of overall prestige in Bio, those two are pretty much the same.

neo, i applied as econ too! i got econ/int'l relations for LA, which is more specific to what i want, and just econ for berkeley.
if i get into cal tomorrow, though, i honestly don't know which one to pick.
