I will be taking pre med classes, and where would I be able to excel both in undergraduate and graduate. Meaning which school will get me in to medical school, and which school will prepare me for the competetiveness of the medical schools. THanks!

Some say that pre-med at UCLA and UCB can be too intense and therefore too hard to get the GPA for med school.

which school will prepare me for the competitiveness of the medical schools.

I think that premise is wrong. While certainly med students are dedicated, I don’t think the atmosphere is cut-throat competitive. From what I’m hearing, the students are pretty supportive of each other in med school.

That said, your UC choice is up to you. You know yourself best. Are you up to the challenge of having a lot of super stats classmates all fighting for the As?

Or, have you always been a very good student, but not some total brainiac?

If you’re the latter, then go with UCSB. If you’re the former, then go with Berkeley?

What are your stats?

What was your high school like? Public, but very strong with lots of NMFs/high scoring kids…or an OK public with one or two NMFs/high scoring kids every year…or a demanding Private also with a good number of NMFs and high scoring kids every year?

I know that the number of NMFs is not the total guideline, but it can provide a glimpse into the school. Schools that have a lot of 4.0s but rarely has any NMFs or high-testing students are suspect in my mind.

What was your rank?

Niether of them if you are OOS. Paying that kind of money for premed when you have great instate options in Texas is foolish, IMO. But what I don’t understand is why pass on Wake Forest, which is a lot less competitive than Cal but the same price OOS?

Oh my!

I didn’t realize that the student is OOS.

Blue is right…both cost too much for an OOS student…unless family is wealthy and won’t miss the $200k for a UC school.

What are your more affordable options?

wake was just too expensive. Well I’m not a braniac no no no, i barely got into berkeley i believe. so go with ucsb?!

go to the one you like better.
