Here goes..

I am applying from an out of state CC to UCB for EECS, the grading system is very different here. For a 4 credit calculus class at Berkeley we have it at 5 credits here, and so on for many other classes. My question is, if I have a total gpa of 3.5 from my CC,when I submit my transcript this November will admissions convert the gpa to meet their criteria (by adjusting the amount of credits to theirs)? EX: Will a grade of ** in a 5 credit out of state CC be converted to a 4 credit class when they review the application? Also how bad would a grade of C look on a non-transferable class like Pre Calc?

Thanks in Advance

If your school is on the semester system (that is, you’re expected to complete 30 credits per year) I believe they keep the unit counts for courses the same. Looking at the official articulations from my OoS coursework, it’s going based on how my old school defined them. If you’re on quarters, everything is multiplied by 2/3 to account for the different systems, but even then the units are still based on how your old school handled the units.

Pre calc: C in math doesn’t look good, honestly. EECS is a pretty technical major, and it’s important to have a strong math foundation. But if you’ve completed other maths since then and done well, I doubt they’ll care about pre calc.

Also, just a general note: Make sure you’re on track if you want to transfer! Pre-reqs are pretty important. You can find what you’re expected to have taken on assist.org, though you’ll have to guess at the articulations for your school. But try and match it if you can, otherwise you’ll be behind after transferring. Also, expect a lot of your coursework to not transfer… lower division CS classes (61ABC) are hard to find articulations for, as are discrete math (CS70), circuits (EE40), and systems/signals (EE20N). You might get lucky on a couple, but you’ll probably have to retake half of those.

Thank you or the crystal clear answer.
