I know a Professor at UCSC who has worked on countless projects with the Santa Cruz Institute of Particle Physics and when I told him that I was considering Berkeley for Physics, he said that both the Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara campuses have better programs. I know that the UCSB has the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics and 4 Nobel Prize winners, but I've never noticed any huge difference between Berkeley's physics program and those of SC and SB. Will anyone please enlighten me?

This is a whole thread and from the looks of it all 3 universities have a very good Physics program.

Great thanks. Maybe it was just the bias of my professor towards his own department…which of course is expected :)

There are plenty of schools out there that offer physics program in a much better way than Cal does, but sadly, they don’t have the prestige, connection and facilities that Cal has.

I’d stick with Cal if I were you. It has the best prestige name, best staff employed in the department, best students, best grad students, best faculty, best research works, maybe higher funding and best overall resources.

^^^That’s the Cal I know and love, but of course it’s bloody difficult to make your name there. It’s definitely at the top of my list though!!!
