A few weeks ago, I received an email inviting me to interview for Regents! I’m really excited but also really nervous, and had a few (read: many) questions I couldn’t find great answers to online. If anyone has done a Regents interview at Cal, or is super close with someone who did one, it would be awesome if you could help a gal out Thanks in advance!!!
- How far in advance do they tell you which professor will interview you? A few daysbefore? Hours? Minutes :O?
- How do you know if the interview is going well?
- Do you want to ask the professor about their experiences at Berkeley or just keep the discussion about yourself?
- Is it like a normal interview? Or less structured?
- Some people on Reddit were saying they got technical questions. I applied for CS, and for the interview category I picked Engineering/CS. I don't know a lot about engineering, and my computer science knowledge is also moderately limited. How often, or in what cases, do they ask technical questions?
- Is it true that grades/stats don't matter from this point on? Only the interview matters?
- What do they look for now? How do the people interviewing us decide who not to or to select?
- Is there anyone who did the interview but did not get the scholarship and is willing to talk about their experience?
@Melanie786
My son is a regents scholar EECS ‘21, and here are his answers to your questions. Hope it’s helpful,and good luck!
- You find out the day of when you get there
- Same as a normal interview just depends on how the interviewer acts (PS. dress professionally!)
- At the end usually the interviewer asks if you have any questions so it’s probably fine to ask then
- Yeah I mean i guess it’s a normal interview
- I didn’t get any technical questions but they can ask whatever they want definitely be ready to talk about your classes and any relevant experience that you put on your application
- They don’t say how they choose but they definitely look at your application
- Again they don’t say
He asked a friend who didn’t get
He asked a friend who was also interviewed but did not get it
- I found out like 30 minutes before
- If you had a solid conversation then I think it went well
- I did ask about their experience just so it’s more like a conversation and not just about me
- Mines was less structured;
- My technical question was asking me what I knew about my major
- Stats probably do matter, that’s why I probably why I didn’t get it haha
- They definitely want someone who is knowledgeable in what they’ve done like the clubs you were involved in, sports you’ve played, etc.
@sdhotmama how did you find out if you got the regents or not? Is it on Berkeley MAP, and do regents results come out the same time regular decisions come out? thanks!
@hopefulcalbear on the day of regular decisions my son got an email to check Berkeley MAP. Or at least it was like that two years ago. It’s on the same day but he didn’t remember the exact time. Good luck!
