"UCB Transfer Alliance Project" --- where?

So on the heels of UCLA TAP, I did some searching and learned that there are various mentioned of a very similar program for UCB (last reported in April 2006, from what I can find.)

Apparently the admit rate through this program is ~90% and is available at nineteen Northern CA schools. For the life of me, I cannot find the list of schools with this program. Anyone able to provide some assistance? Thanks.

"TAP is designed to increase the academic preparation and opportunity for high-achieving, low-income and otherwise disadvantaged prospective transfer students. The program provides intensive academic preparation and advising to help participants become competitive in Berkeley's highly selective transfer admissions process."

Never heard of this before...

Can't edit my message any longer, but here's the link to the 4/06 UC Notes article I referenced: http://www.ucop.edu/pathways/ucnotes/april06/grants.html

"Berkeley's five-year grant will enable the campus to expand its Transfer Alliance Project (TAP). Currently in 19 Northern California community colleges, TAP will nearly double in size, expanding some of its existing programs and starting new ones in a handful of Southern California community colleges."

The 90% admission rate is taken from the 2004-05 UC Academic Report, available here: www.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/academicprep_report04-05.pdf

"Approximately 90% of community college students in UC Berkeley’s Transfer Alliance Project, a program that offers comprehensive advising and academic enrichment, were admitted to UC Berkeley, compared to an overall UC Berkeley transfer admission rate of 29%."

what are you talking about???????

a transfer program with UCB....that gives applicants a 90% shot?

i'm pretty sure theres no guarantee or major safe programs to join...to be admitted to berkeley..

Apparently El Camino College (LA area) is one of the seven additional CCCs chosen to expand the program in Southern CA: http://www.elcamino.edu/administration/publicrelations/docs/Jack%20Cooke%20Grant.pdf

For the 2005-06 academic year, the program is listed as code 03 for UC Transfer Admission Programs. (http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergradapp/importantinformation.pdf)

Still hunting for that list of schools.

Edit --- June 2006 article at SFGate.com that mentions someone opting for TAP and transferring to Haas: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/06/10/BAGS4JBQN01.DTL&feed=rss.news

OH SWEEET
i just hope that other southern CCC participate with this TAP

I'm calling Berkeley to see if Pasadena City Colleges if one of those participating colleges.

"I'm calling Berkeley to see if Pasadena City Colleges if one of those participating colleges."

Out of curiosity, what department are you planning to call for information? This was the closest I could find to any contact information: http://students.berkeley.edu/outreach/Programs.asp?rid=47

Oh, and if you wouldn't mind doing your fellow CCers a favor, could you ask which schools are participating? I'm sure many here will appreciate it. :)

Will do.

The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters.

high five

Apparently none of you read the article. Here is an important snippet:

"TAP is designed to increase the academic preparation and opportunity for high-achieving, low-income and otherwise disadvantaged prospective transfer students. The program provides intensive academic preparation and advising to help participants become competitive in Berkeley's highly selective transfer admissions process."

High achieving, low-income and otherwise disadvantaged prospective transfer students.
