UCB/UCLA Help!

Hey!

I'm currently a sophomore at UCSC. Had a ridiculously low gpa in high school (technically made me ineligible to apply to uc's) but a decent SAT (2190) and was admitted to UCSC, rejected at most other schools. I've always liked UCB and I tend to be more compatible with people there than at UCSC, and a multitude of my very close friends are at UCB. In addition, I plan on double majoring in poli sci/econ, and am very drawn to UC Berkeley's programs. Lastly, UCB is in the bay, which is where I grew up and intend on living in the future. Needless to say, I really want to get in to UCB, but am also applying to UCLA, UCSD, UCD for academic reasons. Anyways, I called UCLA undergrad admissions today to check on "transfer-ability" of one class at UCSC to use it to satisfy a poli sci pre-req that UCLA has, and learned that only one of the politics courses (UCSC has politics, not poli sci) at UCSC will satisfy a poli sci pre-req at UCLA; upon further conversation, the representative told me the adviser suggested I look into cc classes near UCSC. At this point, the local cc has already started and does not even offer enough pre-req's for me to apply to UCLA. I plan on contacting a UCB representative to make sure my classes transfer there. UCB is my #1. I screwed up in high school due to my nonchalance about schoolwork and have been utilizing more of my potential here at UCSC. I have a 3.96 gpa (4.0 major gpa). Although, I've only got a couple ec's (mock trial), but quite a few major ones from high school. So, to my questions...what should I do about this major pre-req situation with UCLA? Also, with such few ec's in college, despite my great ec's in high school, do I still have a good shot at UCB, UCLA, etc? Sorry for the long post; I appreciate all the help I can get!

Having pre-req finished helps alot but if the classes for the pre-req are not offered from assist.org there is nothing you can do and shouldn’t be used against you when transferring. When I talked to a counselor they said colleges are expecting people to travel within a 30? mile radius if those classes are offered at different schools though, and if they are it can hurt you chances. I’m not sure if that was true or just her opinion.

Hmm, thanks for the help. Doesn’t seem as if there are any other schools in the area that offer all the pre-req’s I need. Also, I find it unreasonable that a school would require me to travel 30 miles to a cc operating on semester system while completing classes at UCSC, which operates on a quarter system, so hopefully I do not have to go that route! Also, the representative said I would be significantly disadvantaged if I did not have the pre-req classes. But again, thanks for the help!

P.S. Not sure why, but my OP got moved to post #2 for anyone reading
