UCB, UCLA, UCSD from an average student

okay, i just need to know my chances UCSD, UCLA and UCB for fall 2007
im coming from a community college, with an intent to major in chemistry and minoring in mathematics. These are my grades thus far....
AP Exams
Physics- 4
Chemistry - 4

Calculus- 5

Biology- B
Calculus 2- B+
Writing - A-

Cognitive Science - A

Differential equations and linear algebras - B
Composition- B+
Psychology - C

History - A

Calculus 3 - B
Computer Programming - A
Physics I (calc based) - A+

Organic Chemistry- B+

physics II
statistics
physical chemistry
critical reasoning and the logics

overall gpa: 3.36

chem major stats for ucla admittance profile
average gpa of applicants rejected: 3.05
average gpa of applicant admitted: 3.57
60% of all apps were admitted for fall 2006 at ucla in chem.

My concern: I only took the AP Test and got a four (which counted in the stead of general chem) and an organic chemistry class. thats a bit thin for a chem major. will that effect my chances?

thank you.

Well let's see.

1 Year of calc based physics - Check
1 1/2 years of calculus - Check
1 year of general chem - Check
1 year of organic chem - Check
(4 on the ap exam is good, a 3 and you should be worried if certain ucs would accept the score as credit)

Considering average gpa 3.57 and the high 60% acceptance rate. I'd say you have a good shot but certainly would not guarantee. Reason being is the course load that you took for the first year. Considering that some students may have taken 3 major related courses per semester and earned an equivalent gpa. However, since this major is a high unit major, possibly a lot of the applicants may not have completed the major prep courses or will even complete by spring prior to transfer. Therefore, i'd say you have a good shot since you've completed all the major prep courses(will in spring).

What are your ecs like?

thanks for the input!

my ecs are chem club, math tutor, physics tutor, hiking club, environmentalist club, no community service though.

UCB - Reach
UCLA - Low Reach / High match
UCSD - Match

I think you can get in at atleast 1 of them. Good luck!

Your major is really really tricky. I dont know what to tell you but my mind says that berk and ucla are reaches, and depending on your essay, ucsd might be a match.
