What are the odds of getting into Berkeley or ucla with 35 ACT (first and only time fall of junior year), 4.2 uc gpa
In a very competitive NorCal high school, 6 aps, Girl Scouts gold award, otherwise strong involvement in scouts, volunteer work, Enrolled in an arts magnet…
All the chancing websites says it’s a shoe-in, but of course that’s based
On numbers only. She would be going undeclared. Of course, she will apply To various safeties and privates, too.
What about subject tests? Major?
Are 6 APs total (including senior year)?
I think she has very good changes getting in with good essay of course.
She’s currently a junior so plans to take some ap/subject tests. So far ap bio (4) and bio subject 670 (probably won’t show it??) Undeclared major.
6 aps total. She’s a good writer, so I think she’ll do well with the essays. I wouldn’t be shocked if she’s a natl merit finalist, since she’s a natural test taker, but we don’t know of course.
When you say “volunteer work” it’s vague
Does your school have naviance?
She has done well so far. She needs to work on subject tests. Eventhough subject tests are not mandatory, but without having 2 of them with scores of 720+ her chances will be slim (on my opinion). Everything else looks good.
Good luck!
Good to know about subject tests. I guess it won’t hurt.
Re. Volunteer work, various things in scouts, esp. Gold award and camp counselor, and also some environmental-themed work, hospital, etc…
The school has naviance but only lists gpa- no scores! I was planning to ask the school about that. Acc. To that, she’s 100% in on gpa alone, which seems overly optimistic! We send about 20-25 annually to ucb, 12-20 to Ivy/equivalents, and so on…
