That's what I meant, lopside. I thought over 24 there isn't a process of income verification...

I just had to verify my income w/ tax returns and residency, I don't remember them asking to verify if I was independent since it was already on my FAFSA that I was an independent student, I am over 24 though, so maybe thats why, verification mainly is to verify a student's income and residency.

KGZotU, I was told that admissions decisions are complete, they are just not releasing them until 4/30.

Thanks luvtoolearn. What did you mean by verifying income with residency? Was the income verification for financial aid fafsa purposes or to determine in-state residency?

*** ** *** ******* * **** ********!

there should be two forms, one that you verify that you are a California Resident or a resident of some other state and a form that you complete and send in with a copy of your tax return so that they can compare the numbers to what you have on your FAFSA. They do that so that they can put together a f/a package according to your financial need.

Aah, I get it. Just an average verification process then. Thank you so much again and good luck to your husband!

Great. You mean to tell me that decisions will be based on an effin f/a verification letter? This year is all out of wack!

lackofsense..are you an independent student? Did you apply for f/a?

Independent and yes

located in socal. *fingers cross

well the good thing is that both my husband and the other student (pooperscooper) live in this area so my guess is that they are doing batches according to geographical areas.

It will be interesting to see when others start getting these letters.

I'm going to be very dissapointed if I don't get one of those letters. I live in the valley too, so if I was going to get one, it should be soon.

hmmm...I hope not. I live in SF and sadly, nothing was in my mail. Last name initials???

I think SFers will get it tomorrow I hope... it seems the ones who got it were in the east bay close to Berkeley.

CAtoNY: I'm in the east bay, close to berkeley, independent, financial aid, and I haven't seen one.

Then again, I'm old and my income is quite plausible for my line of work. Neither of the schools that have accepted me so far have asked for any verifications.

i'm an independent, live in Berkeley and haven't heard anything. But then again i didn't file taxes from last year.

@lopside:

If I understand correctly, verification is a requirement that you're selected for at the federal level. If you're selected, you'll be asked for verification from all schools admitted to. You mentioned that you weren't asked for verification from the other schools you were admitted to, so if I understand everything correctly you will not be asked for income verification by Berkeley.

lopside...I think both my husband and I might be older than you, but we both were asked to verify income, I was asked last year when I was accepted and now him this year..

One possible reason why we might have had to verify income is because the last few years we had a decent size income for students. I worked for the state and made over 45K, for full time students, that's not bad and I'm guessing that is why they need to check the numbers.

mobilmayhem...on a side note, did you earn any income at all last year? if you did you really should file your taxes because this year is the extra stimulous rebate payment from the IRS, its free money so you really should take advantage of that

KGZotU: Thanks for the info, sounds plausible enough. I'm hoping your right.

luvtoolearn: I'm 30. I dunno how old that is relative to this crowd, but in community college years, I'm ancient. At my school, there are very few classes I don't feel old in.

lol, I know how you feel...but if it makes you feel any better, both my husband and I are older than you. It feels different in the UC though, there are other students there that are non traditional so you'll fit right in, plus you'll be going in at mostly upper division classes so you usually will not be in classes w/ freshmen. It is kinda strange though because you'll be older than most of your GSI's/TAs. PM me if you get into Cal if you want any info on the programs they have to offer. =)
