UCB Verification??

Being a parent seems to be the trend and a valid thing to need verification of by copies of your tax returns (how many dependents you claim). I'd say it's a good sign of getting in and getting some grants. Hope that's true because that's good new for everyone else too - meaning they have been rejected yet.

kal7,
Berkeley is one of the few campuses that have an excellent re-entry/student parent program. One suggestion is that if you are even thinking of going into family housing, you need to apply asap, like Monday if you get a chance. They have a waitlist that you can get on up to 2 years in advance. The wait is not too bad, but like I have told others, the apartments fill up really fast in July/Aug because they are below the market rates for rentals. Most of them are brand new. If you need a link, pm me and I'll send it. They are the only housing that you can get on a wait list even if you are not yet a student.

luvtoolearn,

I don't want to derail the thread, but we've been on the list for a couple months with a request for June; I'll be doing the summer program if I attend Berkeley. Do you happen to know the difficulty of getting in during that period?

Thanks,
Joe

The family student housing? Not too bad for June. July is going to be even better because they are opening allot of new units in July. The construction is almost done. It also depends on how many bedrooms you are looking for.

Yep, family housing. Thanks for the info. Housing is the one loose thread in all of this. Sounds like we'll probably be taken care of.

luvtoolearn, that's very considerate of you. I'm glad to say I'm already on the list and the housing people have told me the wait shouldn't be too bad for August for the unit I requested so let's hope I got someone who knew what they were talking about!
Do you like living in University Village? It looks enormous.

To the nontraditional age students: when and if we make it Berkeley we should meet up. I was already planning to check out the re-entry center and it would be good to see some familiar faces around. What do you think?

kal7: Yes, I think it would be a good idea to meet if we make it to Berkeley.

kal7...
I really do love it there. It is a very large area but, there is everything over here. onsite childcare/preschool, cafe, workout room, study room, computer lab open late, it's across the street from both the fire and police department so its very safe. Most of the students here are grad students and GSIs/TAs so its kinda cool getting to know the ones who will be grading your work...=) it's an older crowd, say mid 20's to mid 30's, some older but most in that 10 year bracket.
The only thing that was hard getting used too was that the apartments are rather small compared to the house we lived in, so we had to really simplify our life while going to school, but we understand that it's only temp until we are done w/ school so it's worth it.

That's great. I'm kicking myself for not having checked it out earlier. I've never been to Albany and have no idea what it's like.

The safety issue is also a big plus and I'm used to tiny apartments. =)

Albany is a tiny town that boarders El Cerrito & Berkeley. The UC Village is literally 1/2 block away from Berkeley. When I walk to the store I walk into Berkeley because the street divides the two cities.

1/2 block? Great! I figured from the bus system that was so frequently mentioned on the Village website that it was a little bit farther. This is all starting to sound better and better, however.

1/2 block from the city of Berkeley, about two miles from the campus though, so maybe that's why it seems farther. The bus comes right there though and it comes often. I don't ride it anymore though, it is really crowded w/ students to where sometimes there is no where to sit. I just park at BART and take that or I buy a semester permit and park by the campus.

Still, that's really close. At two miles, I might try to bike over depending on traffic i.e. not too many homicidal drivers.

I got this from the Berkeley FAO website. This is for freshman but I figure that it applies to transfers as well.

• A Verification of Income Letter requesting federal tax returns and college enrollment documentation will be sent to some entering and continuing students. No official awards will be offered until the verification process has been completed. Early return of documents will ensure that you receive an Offer Letter before the May 1 Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) deadline (entering freshmen) or before leaving for the summer (continuing students). The verification process takes approximately three weeks from the date your documents are received.

cool. I guess I'm screwed. lol

It says that it will be sent to "some" entering and continuing students. So it obviously isn't sent to everyone that got accepted. I just like how it says that it will be sent to some "entering students". I tried to call UCB financial aid to dig up more info, they were closed for lunch though.

Hmm, got off the phone with someone in financial aid. He certainly didn't make me feel too good. I asked him if I should wait till i've been accepted to send in the forms and he said "yea, just wait." Then I asked him if these forms had anything do with with admissions or are they seperate and he's like......"errrr yea they're separate."

Can't a lot of people not see there financial aid on this board? I am not going to stress my self out by checking but it seems there is a lot of people from CC that are not seeing there financial aid.

yea this is different though. This thread is about the verification forms that UCB sent out to some applicants. Trying to figure out if it's a sign of acceptance.

Whoops, seriously my bad.
